Question:
I just saw this over on ArsTechnica, some guy showing off some screen caps of HDTV in action, it looks amazing to me!

Warning: probably broadband users only...
Just wonder when/if we will ever get this in the UK, probably not :(
HDTV is superb. I have a 47" HDTV and love it. I only get a few 1080i HD Channels, but what I do get it amazing, usually with 5.1 sound and anaporphic video :)
I think the UK will get it, but with PAL having stlightly less of a need for it than NTSC I think it will be a little longer arriving.
Thankfully (well, kinda) by the time we do get HDTV, native rez plasmas will be £2k, and my recently acquired Panasonic 5 series will be used by my mum for watching videos on. :D
Not as a broadcast system in the UK for 10 years at least or more.
The US opted for HDTV as a digital TV system
UK/Europe opted for cheap digital "PAL" (effectively).
Result is we have cheap widescreen TVs, but low resolution TV. US has expensive widescreen TVs that no one buys, but have HDTV.
:oh-hum:
The general public is not going to accept another TV system change after having to change to digital. It took 30 years to change from analogue colour PAL, and even it'll be 5 or 10 years before that's dead completely.
I saw Hi-Def on Demo at the Earls Court 'Live' Show and it completly blows anything I have ever seen right out of the water
Sadly this country (UK) has opted for quantity over Quality and I cannot forsee it changing for years
on a brighter note JVC are about to release a Hi-Def camcorder very shortly....strange that Home Video enthusiasts will be able to output far superior Quality Video, than what broadcasters currently offer
Believe me once you actually see HD nothing else can cut it,
the quality is simply amazing
We will get hdtvs its just they will be mainly of use for later generation dvds or mpeg 4 high res films from pcs. They will have a fallback standard pal mode for are terrible terrastial broadcasters. I'm pretty sure Sky plans to introduce hdtv far sooner that the bbc and freeview.
Being a long term hater of the bbc I'm hopeing that when the service becomes low grade broadcasting as well as low grade programming someone will finally get round to abolishing the theft that is the tv license fee. As a science fiction fan the bbc does nothing for me and while I don't care if the bbc continues to knock out naff costume dramas and police series I just don't want to be financially involved with it.

Already is low grade isn't it? ;)
Can't say I watch BBC these days. ITV is worse though. I don't think I've watched it for months... oh, maybe the last F1 Grand Prix, but nothing else.
Unfortunately there's a large portion of this country who like watching the trash on BBC. Damn polite middle-of-the-road sit-coms especially :oh-hum:

Not to mention the BBC and ITV's insistence on shovelling muck like Eastenders and Coronation Street into people's homes on a nightly basis. Oh, and the derivative crap like Holby (******* Son of Casualty) City, I'm a Celebrity ..., Big Brother, Celebrity BB, Stars in Their Eyes Kids etc ... just makes me think that programming quality is at an all time low, when license fees are at an all time high. There really is so little of value to watch on TV at the moment.

The problem is "Europe". We went through this process 10 years ago trying to agree on a High-Def standard and it failed because no one could agree.
The best thing for the UK is to ignore Europe (always a good idea) and just go with whatever the US or Japan has (though following the US is not such a good thing, as we know from recent events ;)).
The BBC has commited itself to HD I'd heard.

Really?, then it must be running on a 10-15 year roadmap to HD :oh-hum:
That's what I read in What Video Widescreen.
