What's the advantages, pros and cons of bi-polar surrounds?:help:
Well, I've got a pair of the Eltax Linear Response bipolar rears; 2 seperate enclosures per speaker with 1x mid-range and 1x tweeter per enclosure....I have them slightly behind the listening position about 1ft above head height. They are kind of "wedge" shaped, almost like a capital letter "A". I have them set with the apexes more or less facing each other, so that the drivers are firing ahead, and into the wall behind the sofa:

They sound superb, so I would definitely give them the :thumbs: up :)
I have a pair of B&W DS6 Dipoles. They're great for movies (diffuse soundfield), but if you read the B&W site they suggest that normal "directional" speakers are perhaps preferable if you were into multi-channel music, like SACD.
I always found, when I had a pair of DM601s (normal bookshelf speakers) that they were too directional. But in a bigger room, further away from the seating position, they would probably have seemed less so.
Yup, for HC Bipolar (in phase) and even better, Dipolar (out of phase) surrounds give an excellent diffuse sound field. I can see that they might not be ideal for music, but otherwise they are the best! :)
the bi polars are a vast improvement in movies, the diffuse sound field is much more atmospheric than the sometimes clinical presentation standard speakers give, remember the film was originall mixed to play in a large theatre with an array of speakers and the bi polars come closest to recreating this.....as for them not being as good for music...this makes sense but im still not convinced why you would want to play nusic through a av system..its never as good as a standard cd..musicamp..and also most of the multichannel music is very gimmikey and doesnt really work or sound cohesive...
