Astra 2D Transponder frequecies for BBC channels
Question:

(not sure where to put this - TV sounds right)
Hi folks,
does anyone have an up to date web site that lists the transponder frequencies for the BBC channels on the
Astra 2D satellite??
Aparently, (total guess) sky are blocking BBC channels from
the Astra Satellite if your on freeview, but you can manually find
the chanels and store them from the recently moved Astra 2D?
... right you might know what I'm on about - my boss asked me about this and I said I'd post on here
Cheers

Answers:

Not sure what your on about. The BBC channels have just moved from 2A to 2D but it's got nowt to do with Freeview.

all I meant was
My boss has freeview, he can no longer get BBC channels.
I have a Sky Subscription I have all BBC channels,
I just need a listing for the BBC channels on 2D (he found BBC1 last night and wants the others)
Cheers

If he really has Freeview then he gets it through his aerial and not via satellite!
If he has a free to view (FTV) card in his satellite receiver then he can try the add channels option.
If he has a free to air (FTA) digital receiver then he may have to re-scan the frequencies or whatever you do with these things!

Thats the one :)
He can add the channels manually, I just need the frequencies,
I dont think it finds the channels when he just does a scan fo them.

Freq: 10.773
Pol: H
Symbol Rate: 22.0
FEC: 5/6
That's BBC England.
If you want Scotland or Wales, then same as above, but change the Freq to: 10.803

Thanks, he tried that one and got nothing :(
On saturday night he was messing with his digi box and all the channels came back, 24 hours later and they'd all dissapeared again (the box was switched on all the time). This has led him to beleive that is not his dish alignment as surely if you can get it once you can get it again.
anyway... he can get BBc1 london on
Freq: 10.847
Pol: V
Symbol Rate: 22.0
FEC: 5/6
and some ITV1 channels (like local Channel Islands ITV network and really helpful places like that)
on:
Freq: 10.906
Pol: V
Symbol Rate: 22.0
FEC: 5/6
To me, this is sounding like he needs an engineer 'round to take a look at his setup - I think he just want to make sure its neccesary.

Well I just tried the freq's I posted, and all the BBC channels appeared.
I take it he's power cycled the box? (You know, unplugged from the wall for a few mins)

Answers:

Yeah, tried that, being in the computer industry, you always try
with a re-boot first ;)

There's always the leave it off for 10 minutes and remove the card trick!
After you've done this, switch it back on and wait for the message, telling you to to insert your card, appears. Put the card in and see what you get.

hardware would have been better ;)
theres useul info at www.digitalspy.co.uk forums on both satelite & terretrial kit.

I'll suggest he tries that, although to be honest I reckon his
alignment is probably screwed up. He seems to be able to search and receive Vertical polarity channels but not Horizontal
.. but as for what that tells us......

Do you mean, Home Cinema hardware forum..??
I hadn't noticed it, but I would have thought trying to get BBC 3, BBC 4 etc was stretching the subject of "Home Cinema Hardware" to its limits ;)
aaaaaanyway, thanks for your link I'll check it out.
(this is great I'm getting sanctioned forums time while at work  )

Thanks, the forum on there has a thread with about 200 replies on it - sounds like his dish needs realigning
Cheers folks!

As the BBC now use the lowest frequencies with ITV as these are on Astra 2D not 2A you do need a carefully aligned dish. When Sky fitted some they did not do it properly no surprises there (luckily mine was done by an independent and is fine).
You could try adjusting yourself, slightly loosing and move a bit whilst someone at your TV sees if you get anything.
The problem does seem to be worse the further North you are in UK.

Well seeings as this isn't discussion about a particular TV show and is about tuning your hardware I think Hardware is better suited too ;)

I was under the impression that the BBC delayed their move to Astra 2D until 14th July following a disagreement with Sky about their future channel placement on the EPG. Also the BBC have decided to wait until then in order to await the outcome of a meeting of the ITC which takes place at the end of June. Am I correct in assuming that the BBC have started to allocate some frequencies on Astra 2D but they are only for test purposes at the moment ?

I think I'm right in saying that all the BBC channels are now broadcasting from Astra 2D.
The 14th July date is when they should start broadcasting unencrypted i.e. the national versions versions of BBC1 should be available to everybody in the UK or in the footprint of Astra 2D.

Yepp, your'e correct. Just checked with digitalspy (should've put brain in gear before engaging fingers/mouth before posting).
From my viewpoint it means that I still can't get local BBC1 other than BBC1 Wales until FTA:( On a slightly different tack, it appears that some viewers are now not getting a good sat signal for BBC - apparently some dishes are slightly misaligned.
Cheers

Could this be the reason that for the past couple of months I've randomly been without all BBC channels on Sky some nights? It's fine for days at a then suddenly nothing or major break-up then it'll be fine again the next day etc.
Do I need to get my system realigned?
Nice of Sky to bother telling their loyal customers about this (if this is the case).
Bunch of *******.
