Question:
Just purchased Sky + and i'm now considering buying a DVD recorder in order to archive movies/sport etc.
My questions are -
1. Will it be a matter of just connecting to Sky box the same as i would a VCR i.e. via scart?
2. As Sky are going to be broadcasting in DD 5.1 a lot more will this also transfer onto the recording?
3. If i genuinely wanted to back up my own DVD collection can this be done?
And to finish can anyone reccomend a recorder.
Many thanks.

Yes, but if the recorder can record in RGB (which most can) you will get much better recordings if you connect the recorder to the main scart of the skybox and then connect the output scart of the recorder to the tv, rather than to the vcr scart of the sky box, as the vcr scart may only output composite.
2. As Sky are going to be broadcasting in DD 5.1 a lot more will this also transfer onto the recording?
No. The recorders out at the moment only record from an analogue input, so no dd5.1. The recorder will encode the stereo sound to dd2.0 for recording onto the dvd. A recorder with a digital input is supposedly on the cards, but I don't know when it'll be out, or how expensive.
3. If i genuinely wanted to back up my own DVD collection can this be done?
With certain dvd players yes, with my setup (Panasonic E50 recorder, Pioneer 444 player) no.
And to finish can anyone reccomend a recorder.
Panasonic E50 - I have one and I'm very pleased with it. I haven't heard of any real problems with it, or anyone who isn't happy with it.
Panasonics are the better bets IMO. E50 good but for maximum versatility the HS2!
