Another thumbs down for black here. It looks bloody 'orrible and, as has been said above, shows up dust too much.

I think a Black Flatscreen would look pretty nice

I hate silver.
Current tv is silver only because they didn't do it in any other colour. I was hoping that Sony would go back to the dark grey they used to use.

I don't mind either but it certainly appears that black IS making a strong comeback at the mo!

I think the black cabinet actually makes the screen size actually look a lot bigger that it is. Also its less distracting when watching it. Ive had to go for a silver TV as there were no black ones around anymore. I see that Toshiba and panasonic have two new models just released that have black (or Dark grey brushed metal) surrounds.
Very nice. Ive noticed a similar trend in Mini Hi Fi's the newer higher end models are coming out with a black 'glass' look.

I would suggest that the recent trend for everything to be Silver or anything other than Black, has been the biggest factor in the upsurge of Home Cinema.
Going back to the "You're not having THAT black box in my living room" could be a disaster for sales :nono: :p

Perhaps your right, but the stuff is very very sexy. Better than 90% of the plasticy silver looking stuff.

I must have bought wisely then as none of my stuff looks plastic.

the simple fact that only a few of you have mentioned is 1 silver only came around to re inject sales into a market that was slowing down..and 2 black actually and obviously makes more sense you should have a little ambient or day light bulb behind your tv matching the light output from the tv..use video essentials to match the light temperature..this is however enough light to make silver cabinets take on a little sheen and is more distracting than just black..

Black has been around for ages... the last time silver was de rigeur was around 1982 when Amstrad tower hi-fi systems were all the rage
If all separates had a proper brushed metal silver finish, there wouldn't be a problem. As it is, most of them are silver plastic, and IMHO look cheap and nasty.

Having just moved from a black Tosh w/screen to a Silver Panasonic, I can say that aesthetically the new TV is much better looking. A big black TV just looks clumpy in your living room, whereas a silver one looks a bit less "OI!" if you get my meaning.
Still, horses for courses ... my living room is now a much lighter colour since we decorated and I dare say our new silver TV would have looked odd against our old decor.
I suppose it shouldn't be too much to ask that you can pick the colour you want for an expensive TV. After all, you generally can for other HC kit.
Pretty much all my other AV / HiFi stuff is black BTW ... Rotel, Yamaha, Project all having only recently embraced the new silver chic.

Sigh...if I could, I'd have all my kit in black. My AV amp, VCR, and speakers are all black. It just suits practically any environment.
But alas, my TiVo, digibox, DVD player and Sony telly are all silver. To make matters worse, they're all frikkin' different shades of grey or silver. It's really crappy-looking!
Still, I suppose it's better than that horrible champagne/gold colour that Pioneer players (and a certain popular cheap DVD player  ) come in. :gag:

Champagne's classy ... much more posherer than silver or black. :D (says he with a CP Pioneer DVD737)

I think silver is a European thing - most American TVs, DVDs, digital cameras etc still tend to be black

Hear hear! I agree, it's a shame that Pioneer has moved away from the champagne on their later models. Of all my kit the finish on the Pioneer DV717 looks the best by far.

Personally I never liked the look of the Pioneer stuff, at least the older models. That horrible gold/champagne colour, that cheezy old-fashioned font.....urgh! Looks like it belongs in the 50's, perhaps earlier. :gag:
But that's just me.

It looks very nice, but what about having all your other kit in an identical champagne colour?
This is what narks me about 'silver' - it could be brushed stainless steel, silver plasic, or grey plastic :gag:
At least you can be sure of all your black kit matching!

Unless you buy the greyish black which is even worse than black :gag:

Not the front, the font. The italic writing scrawled on the facia ("RGB Output" or something comes to mind on some of the players). Looks like the sort of thing you'd see on an old Marconi radio.
