Question:
After much sweating, I feel it's time to get myself some sort of Air conditioning for my cinema room. The heat gets unbearable at times and i'm also worried my PJ will start having problems with overheating.
Problem is I don't know where to start, or which models to be looking at. Probably looking at up to £250 as my budget and the room has a floorspace of 4m x 3m.
Any suggestions on what I should be looking for and any unit recommendations would be a great help.
I've just got one of the £180 jobbies from Homebase ... Details (http://www.homebase.co.uk/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/GBP/DisplayProductInformation-Start;%24sid%24K87l-QAABYJoEQAxVQqMW3ja0s0_HYvv?ProductID=on7UPgRHnlAAAADyyhJL0E3d&CatalogCategoryID=9i7UPgRHFIUAAADx8YpdAKxs)
...for my home office as I work from home 3 days a week.
The room is about 3m X 4m and it does a good enough job of cooling it BUT it has two main drawbacks:
It's noisy - very noisy, just in case you couldn't hear me over the air conditioning IT'S VERY VERY NOISY !!!
It needs a vent to outside, the vent hose that comes with it is 5" wide. It either goes out of a window or you can cut a hole in the wall to fit it. After much disscussion with the wife (about 3 seconds) it goes out of the window.
Saying all that, it's about the only thing in that price range.

:oh-hum: I hadn't thought about that, that may be a problem in my average size room. Guess I could always cut a hole in the ceiling and place it as far away from seating position as possible.
I have the volume pretty loud when watching films but would you say the noise of your conditioner would interfere?
I guess with a loud action film you might not notice too much.
You could always run it to cool the room before and switch it off before you start watching.
I had a look around before buying this and couldn't find anything anywhere near the price so your choice is limited unless you want to pay big £££.
BTW > There is a model for £230 that comes with a remote control
I've got a DeLonghi aircon unit (~£250) that I use in my study and vent through a hole in the wall.
It's effective but fairly noisy; not sure I'd like it in my AV room (I've never tried it in there because that room is on the cool side of the house). Would be fine during action films, etc, but I reckon it would intrude on 'quieter' films.
