Question:
Hi,
I would appreciate any advice on setting up my Sky digibox to receive Italian channels such as Rai Uno.
I currently have Sky digital and was told I would need an 80cm dish with digital LNB and a box which will allow my digibox to have 2 inputs.
Does anyone know anything about setting this up and where I can get the equipment?
Cheers
I managed to get my old digibox to pick up RAI UNO, DUE & TRE, plus ITALIA 1, RETE 4, & C5 from Hotbird at 13E. You can only do this via the Add Channels option (type in the relevant settings to locate). Accessing those channels has to be done via the Other Channels menu option after pressing the Services button.
It does work fine, but there's no programme listings, and it's a little clunky. In my opinion, you'd be better off finding a cheap FTA digital receiver (mine's a Manhattan Skyline 3000 @ £199) and hook it up to a 1m dish with a digital LNB. Much easier access, and simpler to look for other channels.
Picture quality is much better than the sparklie laden analogue signal I got, and my parents too on their 90cm dish. I've got a 1.2m motorized dish with a twin output digital LNB. Use it mostly for NBC feeds from the US to watch Friends, ER, West Wing, etc.
Thanks for the advice Cervaro.
I was actually thinking of using the digi box purely for foreign channels :norty: so if I hook up a 90cm dish with digital LNB would this be OK?
You should be OK, but the digibox is limited in terms of symbol rates and FEC's, so some channels will be out of reach. If it's just RAI and the Mediaset channels you want, and are prepared to work through the menus to access them, then yes, the digibox will do the job.
would it be possible to hack the LNB off the Sky Digital dish and put it on the 90cm dish?

Sky LNB's use a non-conventional shape, and not sure if there's an adaptor to fit one onto a 90cm dish.
