Denon DM31 vs. Denon DM30
Question:

Hi
Has anybody compared the difference between a Denon DM31 vs. a DM30?
I have a DM30 which is on the blink, and have the chance to change it over to a DM31.
But it is any better - have Denon cut any corners with the new iteration?
Cheers!

Answers:

I have a DM31 and have had for ~2months
It has all metal buttons (did the 30 have plasic? cant remember)
Also has 22wpc instead of 20wpc.
Not 100% familiar with the dm30 so cant say whats changed.
Edit :- totaly happy with the beast too. The alarm function is to funky for me and I only just figured out how to cancel em properly. Could be much better documented.
Has tape loop, several inputs and a SUB output, the DM30 have a Sub out?

Answers:

Don't think the DM30 has a sub-out
Prolly not much in it - but the DM31 looks a bit fresher...

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I LOVE my Denon DM30, but it has a high pitched whistling noise when in stand-by and is also skipping on CD playback.
I love the sound quality, so don't won't to lose this if I "upgrade" to the DM31. Just hope Denon haven't cut any corners....

This is interesting - I've just started noticing my Denon D-M30 also has a high-pitched noise in standby......started about a week ago. I've started leaving it on all the time to avoid the noise.

Thats the fellow!
I also leave it turned on now, with the volume set to 0. But its a waste of electricity, plus the green LCD display is quite bright at night.
Wonder if this is a widespread problem then??

Answers:

That's excatly the same as I'm doing, with the colume set to 0
Who did you approach about getting the unit replaced for the D-
M31?
Seems a bit odd that we both have exactly the same problem.

Answers:

Mines going back to Richersounds.
Been waiting for a replacement for ages, but the DM30 was out-of-stock for yonks, so they are replacing it with the DM31 instead.

Answers:

Cheers Andy - how long have you had yours - mine is approx 14 months old but I see on the Denon site that warranty is 2 years.
I don't much fancy the chimps at Comet trying to repair it though.

Answers:

only since late Febuary this year - been ringing up RS nearly every week nagging for a replacement.
Top bit of kit, and I'd sooner have another DM30 rather than a DM31 which is a bit of an unknown quantity so far....

Answers:

Ta - it'll be interesting to see how this gets resolved then.
I've just mailed Denon.

Answers:

Difficult to see how the DM30 COULD be bettered so definitely worth still considering it esp as there could some good deals out there!

£169 ex speakers from Richers (if they have any which it sounds like they don't)......unbeatable.co.uk might be worth a look.

The DM31 is everything the DM30 was with a few mor features and 2 wpc more ooomph.
The DM30 was never a reliable model (loads of CD problems I hear). So far 1.5 month into my DM31 its all good.
Sound wise I dont think theres anything in it, apart from me using some old wharfdale diamonds as its speakers, cant be as good as something uptodate.
