Question:
Hi yall,
I have just demo'd the kef eggs and the B&W VM1's and I must say (although its going to cost me way more!) I thought the B&W's were way better!
The only thing letting them down was the subwoofer so the guy put on a B&W ASW675 which sounded amazing!!
My question is this:
Is the ASW675 really worth £400 more or is there a cheaper alternative?
As I said I was really impressed with the ASW but dont know a lot about subwoofers and dont really want my original of £500 for the eggs to go to £850 for the B&W VM1's (which I can just about afford) to stretch to £1250 with the upgraded sub.
Your comments are most gratefully received!
Anyone??
Velodyne vx10 £199 in the powerbuy section of the avforums.
Cheaper alternatives - second-hand REL Q100 or Q150 ( I run 5 VM1's with a Q150), Velodyne CHT-10 or VX-10, MJ Acoutics Pro (model name escapes me) for around £300.....
The 675 is nice but pricey.
dtsrules - I think I know the one you mean. Isnt it £325 though? (if it was £199 I would be well happy with that!!)
Radiohead - I have heard good things about rel subwoofers. Did it make a big difference to the VM1 setup?
A massive difference, yes.
The REL Q150 doesn't have the best bass extension, but as a compact sub it takes some beating IMO (but it is £500 new). However, the Velodyne VX-10 on powerbuy at www.avforums.com at £199 takes some beating, assuming you can live with the looks.

I was looking at the CHT - 10 for £325 on the avforums powerbuy. Do you think there is there a massive amount of difference between them?
The CHT-10 is rated very well by the folk over there but I haven;t seen any independent reviews of it - it's a good sub, that much is clear. At £325 it's hard to see where you could go wrong.
One word of warning - it's much bigger than the REL's if size is an issue.

dtsrules I got confused between the VX 10 and CHT 10.
I notice you bought one of these, how would you rate it?
I've not had a lot to test it against tbh but the bass is clean and it rattled the glasses in the kitchen cupboard :).
As for the looks, i'm happy with it and you can always get some speaker cloth for the front. Best £199 i ever spent.

You mean the MJ Acoustics pro 50. I have one & it's ideal for small room use, it's easy to hide too as it's about 1cuft in size. The Velodyne posse may slate it but I'm happy with it & its size may get the WAF regarding your HC setup.
That's the one, the Pro 50

Why would they want to slate it, it was given 5 stars in a mag and is supposed to be decent.
