Harmon Kardon DVD25 issues?
Question:

Hi all,
I'me thinking of going for the HK25, as it does seem to get great reviews and have no issues other than a little right shift of the PAL image. The current Power Buy make it seem even more attractive at £270 delivered.
Other than that, is it as good as the reviews suggest?
I'll be using it with an NEC HT1000 front projector, and I'm after something similar to the Toshiba SD520e or Pioneer 7xx via component.
Progressive scan should be an improvement of course - the 520 only had NTSC PS and that was better than interlaced, even though the interlaced output was very detailed and had great colours.
I did get a Philips 963sa after reading all the good reviews, but mine suffered from all the issues I'd read about over at avs, so I sent it back for a refund. It was very dissapointing.
Any info appreciated.
TIA
Gary.

I have read about the picture shift on the avforums but I have not experienced it with my dvd25. I have a feeling that it only effects the picture the player puts out when there is no disc present (the one with the conductor). If I remember correctly this was what the photos the guy posted on the avforums were of. I have noticed that the no disc present image, size and position is different to when a dvd is played.
I wouldn't worry about it if you are thinking of getting one. An alternative could be to wait for the arrival of the sony dvd player with pal p.s.. Somebody posted a link to a german site that said it would be released soon.

Yes, that Sony player does look interesting.
Apparently there's a new replacement for the Toshiba 520 - the 530, coming out soon as well, so it'll be interesting to see what's been improved there too.

I've never noticed a picture shift on my H/K DVD25 during playback, but yeah, the initial boot screen does seem to shift about a bit. But it's not something worth worrying about considering the bargin price you can get this excellent player for. (I got mine of the powerbuys, well worth it...). I've had no issues with it, apart from it's a bit slow to read discs initially.

what is the player like with layer changes are they noticeable?
