32 inch Vs 28 Inch
Question:

I have a budget of about 600 quid to buy a TV with. I've seen that this can get me a 32 inch TV from some places (ie empiredirect.co.uk) or i could get smaller for the same price.
My question is - do you think i would be better getting a really good 28 inch TV for this money, or should i get a bottom of the range 32 inch???
Also - am i right in thinking that the sound of the TV doesnt really matter if i plan to play everything through a 5 speaker package set up?

Just go for the bigger screem size m8, the only real differences in the higher priced 32's are 100hz and some extra menus that u probably won't use.
As you say you already have the sound issues covered.

Definitely the 32" every time. The 28" really do look small in comparison.

i agree, go for 32" - bigger is better!
As an aside, I got my philips 32" ex-rental from a granada/radio rentals clearout sale, they supplied a 1year warranty and I got an excellent TV for a mere £320... I was a very happy bunny :D and saved a lot of money. My boyfriend also bought a 32inch Sharp 100Hz TV at the same time for £380.

Another vote for 32". Really a 28" screen isn't very cinematic for enjoying films. 32 is definitely better although not ideal.

Get the 32"!

I toke the 28inch option :help:
But i went from a 24 inch pan scan to 28 widescreen so i was/still am very happy with it
I can see the diffrence between my set and cheap 32 inch sets but we also have a small living room so god knows how we would have fitted in a 32 inch one anyway

32" without a doubt.

and what about the 50 Hz VS 100Hz debate?????
is there a massive difference? or is it not worth the extra money?

Answers:

As regards 50hz vs 100hz, if you put the TVs side by side you can see a (whats looks to me fairly minor) difference..then again what you see in the shops is always configured badly with cut price leads etc. I got a 50hz set but have the DVD linked with a top class S-Video and digital TV linked with a top class Scart..I had a low price scart in at one point and the difference between the two is huge! Play around with the pic of whatever set you get.
My config:
Brightness: Around 45%
Colour: Around 40%
Contrast: Around 80%
Sharpness: Off

The absolute picture quality of a 50Hz set can be better (no digital processing etc).
But having spent my life in front of computer monitors at no lower that 85Hz I just can't watch large 50Hz sets without flipping out ;)
If you aren't sensitive to it then stick with 50Hz :)

So it sounds like i'd be better off saving the 150 -200 quid it would cost to geta 100Hz TV rather than a 50..........
Think i'll follow that advice - thanks very much for your help - where would i be without these forums!

I have a 32 inch widescreen jvc 50 hz. My bro has a 32 inch 100hz sony. There is a difference but like people are saying for the extra money wouldnt bother. As long as good scart etc in the 50 hz will perform well. The 100hz televisions i have seen have a slight trail while watching some sports on sky although i think maybe they have that sorted now?
Philips also have pixel plus now and that looks amazing imo the only thing near is the new Toshibas but they are about 200-400 more expensive. I will stop this is starting to go off topic now. :help:
