Home Cinema advice please..
Question:

I want to get a home cinema setup....I put a wanted ad in the classifieds on these forums and so far have been offered a Sony DAVS 300 (?) for £175 and a Videologic digitheatre DD system for £60.....however looking around I have been very tempted by a set of Eltax speakers in Comet for £99 plus the matching sub woofer for £129 (though cheaper in Richer sounds) then I would have to find a reasonable amp......
My question is should I go for one of the cheaper options or will the sound quality be far better with the Eltax setup, how much actual difference is there between the Sony, Videologic setup. If I go for the Eltax how much should I spend on an amp and can anyone recommend one.
Thanks
Just looked at the Richer Sounds Site they are offering the Sony DAVS400 for £199 or multi region for £229

You don't say what your max budget is, if you can stretch to £299 I think it will be well worth your while. Go for the Sony DAVS550 at RS.

I can probably go to £400 (ish) I have spoken to Richer sounds and they recommend buying everything seperatly.....however the Sony system does seem good. I would just like to know how much sound quality I would lose buying a complete package rather than seperates.... :)

From what I've read the Sony is the bees dangly bits! You get a matched system, it does Dolby Pro Logic II and has RGB output. It's half price at RS so really you'd have to spend a lot more than £400 on seperates to get to the same quality (in theory anyway!)

Hi Dave
Just spoken to Richer sounds again (different shop!) and they said don't get the Sony! go for the Toshiba SD42 HK setup....apparantly it's far better, it is also the same price and has an AM/FM tuner!
A quick search on the net has found the same thing at dvdplayers.co.uk for £218...so I will probably get that. As you say it's all matched so there shouldn't be any compatability problems.......
