Convince me that Sky Plus is worth it.....
Question:

In the absence of Tivo I'm mulling over the current offer of the Sky+ box for £200, then £15 a month for the Sky+ and relocation of my existing box upstairs.
Now, I'm very keen on the idea of auto recording of series etc, and would also like the existing box upstairs. Is it worth it?

Answers:

Yes.
Convinced??
In all honesty I find it indispensable.

Er - do you then have to pay two subscriptions? (one for each device) - if so then I'll pass
I've always felt that the inability to even record one channel whilst watching another to be a complete rip-off - most homes have several TVs etc so it's about time that this was resolved

Answers:

It would normally be £15 for an additional Sky box in the house, plus £10 per month on top of that for the Sky+ sub - so £25.
This offer does away with the Sky+ sub element, giving both for £15 per month.

See you're being defensive when people offer contrary advice.
YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT:lol: :D

I also have been thinking about Sky+
so bottom line.... whats it gonna cost -- I currently subscribe to the full package, but want to downgrade to the family packge
and whats the situation recording to a DVD Recorder from the sky plus machine

Answers:

The above offer is only available for the full package.....

They should offer1 month free trials - most would find it very hard to give it back!

Ummm...it does that.
We've had it for 18 months now, it's

Is it worth it - NO
£199 or more even for the box. Yes well worth it.
£10 per month - Not worth it.
Do you send £10 per month on blank videos - unlikely
With the number of repeats on Sky, realistically how often is there a clash that you can't get around.
How often are you seriously going to use live pause - which still works without the £10 in anycase.
In fact there are only 2 useful things to Sky+.
1) 5.1 DD, but there isn't a huge amount shown
2) It doesn't record the red dot.

Answers:

It isn't about avoiding clashes though is it? For me it's about watching it at another time. My son is NEVER in bed for Buffy, Angel and Scrubs but I still want to watch them on Thursday and not Saturday. Video can't do that and you can't turn your box over anyway.
So if you discount video what else is there? Well you could use DVD recorders etc but the not being able to watch 2 channels buggers you up there.
So could get two Sky subscriptions and video one of them.
Is £10 a lot of money? Yes. Is it worth it? Every damn penny.

Answers:

Is £10 a lot of money - not really, and I don;t go out on the razz all the time anyway. 30p a day...
Our first child is due next month, so this could be just the ticket for timeshifting when I need to. Plus Mrs Radiohead will be able to work it.
Anyhoo - I've ordered it - installation is on the 21st May.

I hope you've plumped for an independant to do it!

Answers:

Of course - as with previous installs.

I use live pause and rewind on my TIVO all the time. I can't handle watching TV in someone else's house, as I'm constantly wanting to pause it to say something, or rewind a bit where I've missed some dialogue.

Err, no it doesn't!

Apols. Had heard from several sources that live pause worked without the sub. Obviously mis informed

I'm considering this too, just a note though, if you read the T&C you have to subscribe to the full SKY WORLD package (£37 per month or whatever) and you will only pay the £15 per month ontop as long as you keep this SKY WORLD package going. Not a problem for me as I do that anyway, not sure I want to pay £199 for a box & then pay them £30 to move my box upstairs (I'm already wired in upstairs)
