Question:
Is anyone else having as much trouble as I am? I'm now on my third DV88+ and this is turning out to be as much of a dog as the last two!
1st one) Multiple random audio dropouts on DTS and DD soundtracks despite having latest firmware. Next chapter button would sometimes take you backwards instead of forwards. Screensaver flickering on and off over DVD menus.
2nd one) Got replacement. Switched it on. It switched itself straight back off again. You could get it to stay on by pushing the on switch to the left and up slightly as you pressed the switch but then you couldn't switch it back off again!
3rd one) Got replacement - direct from Arcam's head office. Random audio dropouts on DTS tracks again (firmware is up to date). Appalling layer change, freezing picture up to two/three seconds with a subsequent audio dropout. First second or so of sound not played on certain discs. And to cap it all a delightful grating noise coming from the player when a disc is playing.
Plus, none of the three players would/will recognise CD tracks encoded in DTS (either commercially produced or ones I've made myself) - they just play back the bog standard stereo channels and don't send a DTS flag to the amp. Something that all my previous players have had no problem with.
Considering how much the thing cost, to say I'm disappointed is an understatement! I'm now at the point where I'm ready to get my money back and go for a Pioneer 757 instead. OK, I won't get prog scan on PAL discs but I can live with that.

I had one for a home demo. Very good sound, particularly on CDs where my Toshiba 2109 is a bit poor. But some CDs wouldn't play properly. anything enhanced like Avril Lavigne would stutter randomly.
I just dont think I could spend so much on a machine which doesn't do the basics right.
Good luck with whatever you decide
