Question:
Have owned one of these since March '02 and as yet never got round to sorting out the extra centre channel at the rear for DTS ES 6.1 and Dolby Digital EX.
Which speakers has everyone with this set-up gone for and any recommendations/advice would be greatly appreciated.
At present I have the following speakers:
B & W P6 Studio floorstanding monitors for left and right.
B & W CDM CNT for the front centre.
Rel Storm subwoofer.
Connected with Van den Hul M.C. The Clearwater Halogen free speaker cable using gold plated banana plugs. Was recommended not to go the bi-wired route by Audio T from where I purchased the amp. Can't remember why but the guy seemed to know what he was talking about so went along with it. Always had front speakers bi-wired in the past mind.
Canon V-100 wide-stereo imaging corner mounted surround speakers.
Connected with QED Micro speaker cable.
Managed to pick up a Canon S-C10 centre channel which I was planning to use as the rear centre channel (in order to keep the same tonal balance etc). Also have a pair or Canon surround speakers (unsure of the model but they are tall thin funny looking shaped ones). Unsure whether I'd get a better effect using a pair of speakers for the rear centre as opposed to a single speaker?
At the time I purchased the amp, Audio T recommended I use a second pair of speakers at the back in addition to my existing Canon V-100's for use when listening to 6.1 soundtracks and/or music recorded in surround sound.
Look forward to hearing from anyone/everyone who owns or has owned this amp.
Thanks.

Hi mate
I`ve got a 3802 and V100 rears and i used another pair of V100`s as rear centre.
Which work really well !!
BTW you don`t fancy a pair of P4`s to go with your P6`s do you ?
Cheers
Hello Cheekster,
I too have a 3802 purchased in Feb 02. Got mine from HiFi Junkies web site which are part of Audio T and then purchased the speakers from Audio T shop in High Wycombe. I was intrested in the Dynoaudio and Kef speakers. Price and the wife made me get the Kef's. She liked the looks better. Q5 floorstanders for fronts, a Q9c as center and Q1's as rear sides. I also purchased a Rel Q150e sub at the same time, and in December I went and got the Q8s surround speakers (2) for the center rears. I still have the 2 center rears on a shelf but I have an eye out for some stands that are not too big for these. Most are built for standmount speakers and not for small surrounds.
The extra spent on the center rears works well when you have a compitable source, DTS-ES works best, but there are few good discs around. Gladiator, Blade II and Lord of the Rings being IMO the best. Otherwise the extras on a 5.1 source is of minimal use.
I presume you are going to get B&W speakers or the Canon's to match what you already have. Good luck and let us know what you think when its complete.
Contar
Thanks for the replies guys.
Stupidly then it seems, when I decorated my home cinema room approx. 18 mths ago, I only ran one run of speaker cable round the room under the carpet for a rear centre speaker instead of two runs (for a pair of rear centre speakers). Ah well, will just have to run another length of cable round and get a carpet fitter in the conceal it.
Prior to decorating I wasn't bothered in the slightest with how many boxes/speakers my home cinema system consisted of (at one stage I had eleven speakers and five power amps!) but now I'm more fussy with getting things to look good as well as sound great. I've got the Canon V-100 speaker grills which I've painted along with the speaker cable that runs up the wall to them in the same colour as the walls.
The last thing I fancy doing now is to bolt a huge pair of speakers on the back wall especially the B & W DM 600 S3 (Black Ash) that I purchased at time of getting the amp.
If as [c]contar[/b] says there aren't that many DVD's that benefit from the DTS ES 6.1 or DD EX soundtracks, then I might just make do with either the small Canon surround I have or try and pick up another pair of V-100's and get some more speaker grills.
Oh btw guys any tips/recommendations for making various adjustments to achieve the best possible sound out of the Denon 3802 please?
Cheekster.
P.S. CARL - Don't really have the space to accomodate the P4's at the back as have two corner tables where they'd go. How much were you looking for them just out of interest?

About the £220 mark ?
As for set up have you got a setup disc and a sound pressure meter ?
Have too many set-up discs (got Ultimate DVD Platinum & Video Essentials, did have Avia also!). No sound pressure meter though. My bro brought his round ages ago and for some reason we couldn't get correct readings off it in order to make the correct adjustments? He knew what he was doing as he successfully set up his Harmon Kardon AV receiver yonks ago.

Carl, have you got a pic i could show her indoors as im tempted. Also how quick do you need the money if she agrees?
Shaz, from what I recall of your room 6.1 is def the way to go.
Because of your door placement if you opted for 7.1 you'd need to bolt some forward of the door which I think is a little to close to the front soundstage.
I'd stick the Canon centre up at the same height on one of those brackets you seem so adept at making!!!!
(Oh and then go and get a 3803 instead, suprised you haven't succumbed yet)

What brackets are those then? I haven't a clue where to try and buy a bracket for the Canon centre? Something small and descrete would be ideal.
Would I need to have a second run of speaker cable (so two runs, one connected to the left and one to the right of rear centre speaker terminals on amp) running to the one Canon rear centre speaker?
How much better have you found the 3803 over the 3802 then?
Thanks.
Cheekster.
P.S. If possible can you please forward the court summons this week as need to sort that dodgy QXL trader once and for all (only been over a year since the incident!).

Shaz, I promise I'll do it. I've been selling my house and getting a new job hence my crap response time!!!!
You'll only need one run of cable I think plugged into whatever rear output is the centre rear. Then IIRC you setup the amp to output to one rear centre rather than two rear surrounds (in addition of course to your other surrounds).
the 3803 is a real improvement but maybe only if you can spend as little as possible on the upgrade.

I can only find this article here (http://www.audioreview.com/Main,Speaker/B&W,P4/PRD_119142_1594crx.aspx#reviews) but not any other pics, The speakers are in very good condition and about 6-7 years old they are in what i think is either dark cherry or mahogany finish.
If you are interested i`m in no great rush for the money!
