Question:
Hi,
The strange thing is that it works with home made VCD's and SVCD's fine but I put in a DVD of some NBA games my m8 in the USA made for me and it wont play them. Does anyone know if the machine is compatible with DVD-R or if it's likely the DVD's he made are duff, I don't have another DVD player so I can't test it.
Thanks
I think the 750s is supposed to play them but I have a friend with the plain 750 and that does not.
My brother has one of these and it plays them no problem
Is it a 750 or a 750s?

A lot of these problems are down to the state of the laser in the wharfedale and the dvd-r brand disc used. A player with a worn laser or one not at nominal adjustment is obviously going to have problems. There are new players now for £50 that read dvd-r and dvd+rs perfectly so it may be worth upgrading rather than paying over the odds for more expensive dvd-r discs.
Yeah, it's very much dependant on the media.
Bit dicy with Princo/TDK dye discs, seems fine with Riteks (Which is the same as most Sony DVD players).
Hence I only burn on Riteks now...
My 750 (original nov 1999 model) will not play DVD-r's of any make. trust me I've tried them all! Now its in the kids room.
Wont play you need a new player. Get a tosh 220e for £80 and download the firmware upgrade for multiregion.
