Question:
hi guys, looking to buy a sub, dont really know how much to spend but it would be working with
marantz amp & dvd and eltax syphony 8.1 surround package
any ideas?
Never had any issues with my Paradigm PDR10. Think that's the model no. Last seen @ £150 in Richers. Works well enough with a Yammy and some Missions.
If you do a search you'll loads of thread about subwoofers. Without a definite budget, it's hard to make a recommendation. However, I can whole heartedly recommend the Velodyne range, having recently upgraded from a REL Q50. I own a CHT-15 (£680) which is brilliant, but a CHT-10 is available for just over £300 and a VX10 for £200.
If you want the best: Velodyne HGS-18
If you're budget is less than £3k though, as Henry says the CHT range is fab. I have the CHT-10 and heartily recommend it. If you have the space and the extra cash, go for the CHT-15 - I didn't have room :(
Uncle Eric as 1 CHT-15 for the unbelievanle price of £484. Retail is £855 :)
A retail of £855 would seem to be extortianate.
From Velodyne's site.

That's one heckuva box. Can you actually use something like this in the average living room? My missus'd kill me if I tried to put that in the living room!
Why quote from the Velo site on US prices. Find a UK dealer and make a comparison. To that price add vat shipping and customs charges. Once you have done that then you are in a position to compare prices.

I just checked Parcel Farce and it's £198 to ship that weight to the states. So Uncle Erics prices aren't too bad.
Dave
I wasn't complaining about Erics price. It's very good. It's the £855 that raised my eyebrow.
I can second the Paradigm PDR10 (I have one, and it compares well to my Rel Q200E).
Failing that, any Paradigm with a higher number. :)
Gary.
