Question:
Whs Smiths outlet in Cheshire Oaks have ex ITV digital boxes for £50. Does anybody out there have an opinion as to which one is the better of the 2 models.
Cheers Bry;)
depends what the two models are
they all had thier faults, but I think the pioneer just about comes up tops
Sorry forgot to mention which models where available. They are the Philips and the Nokia ones.
Bry....
The nokia had a habit of freezing in a frame once or twice a day and forcing you to switch it off and on again AFIAK
which ones do they have? I think lots of the ITV dig problems are now sorted now it's freeview. IMO the freeview boxes probably do a better job with the more uptodate software but my Pioneer keeps me happy
Both have problems but i go for the Philips it is much better! If you can spend a little extra i would go for the New Grundig 1500 at Dixons for £79:thumbs: Don't worry about Grundig company that went bust. Thomson has took over the Support side
The Pioneer one I've got is pretty good - it freezes every so often, which confuses Tivo, it's slow switching between channels, and it won't auto switch to widescreen if available (and even worse switches out of widescreen if a 4:3 advert comes on!)... Apart from those foibles, it's ok... :D
May as well continue this in the Hardware Forum...
I's say spend the extra and get a 'new' box. I've had several of the ITV digi boxes, and all have been much slower than the newer boxes out.
Boxes I've had include the Nokia, Pioneer and Philips. The Pioneer has been the best, but is very slow on interactive stuff, slow on changing channels, sometimes crashes for no reason etc. But this is better than the Philips I had, and the less said about the Nokia the better.
Cheers Bry;)
