Question:
Hi ya,
I have a Toshiba SD-42HK DVD player and recently got the regions unlocked. When I plug it into my Grundig tv ( using phono(DVD) to Scart(TV)) it plays in B&W. I have checked my DVD player and made sure it is set to NTSC and I also made sure that the TV mode for the output is NTSC(4.1) and still no luck!
Can anyone shed any light on this matter - any help would be much appreciated.
I believe you'll need to connect via RGB Scart or S-Video to obtain a colour picture with NTSC discs.
Yeah you'll need to use scart (dvd) to scart(tv) and make sure the dvdplayer outputs RGB like Kanedda said , i think .
U could also try changing from NTSC to PAL on your dvd player, if it allows, to output NTSC as PAL
Delh
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies
My dvd player does not have scart or RGB input, it only has phono and s-video. I bought a s-video - scart lead yesterday and tried that, but the picture is still B&W (for your info - I have tried the DVD player on other tvs and it plays in colour!).
Does it not have RGB output? OK looks like you may need a new TV I'm afraid, if there is no quasi-PAL, or one of those PAL->NTSC gizmos from Lektropacks..
You could try getting an NTSC to PAL Convertor cheaper than a new telly.
I had the same problem my DAVS-300 only has S-VHS or Composite out so I get a Black & White image on my Philips TV, had no problem with my Samsung because it had Scart Output in RGB so you get colour o/p even on none True NTSC compatible TV.
Try Maplin the code is NZ77J.

I've got one of these and its a cheap solution, but I stopped buying region 1's now because the picture on composite is so bad compared to s-vhs.
