Question:
Hi chaps, I was very happy with my Marantz SR5300 until what I thought was normal might be a 'bug'....
Whenever I do a chapter skip or go into menus, there is a delay of about 1.5 seconds for the auto decoding to pick up the sound. Running under analogue inputs gives no delay at all. It appears to be slow in picking up the signal and determining if it's DD or DTS.
Some guys over at the AVForums have noticed this too, others are OK. Apparently amps with a green spot on the box are 'fixed', havaen't checked mine yet.
Anyone else noticed this little 'feature' yet??? I think I can live with it, but like anything you notice it begins to niggle a bit! :oh-hum:
I have an SR6200 and it does the same! Been looking for a fix for ages and from what I've read some people say it's down to the dvd player you use. I use a Marantz 4100OSE so it bugs me if it IS a player problem seeing as the equipment "matches". I read that they are supposed to be better with Sony players but I haven't been able to test this out. Mind you I also heard using an optical cable instead of a coax helped but some people denied that this helped.
I gave up looking in the end :(
Still bugs me tho'
What player are you using out of interest and are you connected through coax or optical?
Using a Marantz DV4300, so like you it should be a perfect match... :(
Using the Co-Axial, had a Wharfedale DVD-750 going into it before and still had the delay. Not used the optical option yet, but I'm guessing it will be the same. There's no delay for analogue.
I got mine from Richer Sounds so can only assume it's a EU version rather than UK specific, apparently this can make a difference as well.
Real shame tho, this is the only bit about the amp that bugs me cos the sound is fantastic. Oh well, guess I'll have to live with it, it's only the menus after all.... I only even realised it was an issue until I read about it, up until then I was blissfully unaware...
Funnily enough, I've never noticed the layer change, so the player must be pretty good on this respect.
i got the Marantz sr4300 and use it with a Sony 336... and i got the same problem too...
Allegedly if you have a green spot on the box label it doesn't have this delay, and it's more like 0.5s instead... I'll check mine tonight, do you guys have this on yours?
Yeah, this is a problem dating back to SRx200 model - I'm surprised they hadn't fixed it by then. Its v annoying!
I've got a SR4200, same problem. I just avoid the auto option. It's obvious if a disc is gonna be DD or DTS and I've just stuck a button on the pronto to change the input type. No delays then.

I had exactly the same problem with two 5300's bought from RS. I returned the first, which had a green sticker on the box to be given another 5300 with a green sticker on the box. Both units had 1.5 - 2 sec delays, on menus, layer change and pausing.
RS were amazed and stated they had never come across it before. They said they would test the units and let me know if they had any answers, I have never heard from them !!
At the time I also spoke to Marantz who said they weren't aware of the problem, even though someone on AV Forums had spoken to the same engineer as myself.
As much as I liked the amp, I found the delay and failure to acknowledge the issue too annoying, so I bought a Yamaha 630 instead, which for movies I think sounds better anyway.
Not sure if I have helped....but I feel better ;)
I think I'll take Coolhand's suggestion of a button on the pronto for now - I mainly listen in stereo so I really can't face getting rid of the marantz. Plus I bought the matching DVD player...

I still got delays whether the amp was in auto mode or not
I when I set mine to DTS manually while watching Back to the Future, the problem vanished when skipping chapters...
Of course, the same old problem will be there for the menus tho, as these always blimmin switch between pro-logic and digital... STANDARDS, PLEASE!!!! :)
Intetresting to hear you still had a problem with a 'green sticker' one, these are supposed to be ok... makes me less inclined to swap it, as I'm more than happy with the rest of it. The 630 does sound like a good bet for movies tho.
