digitheatre et al
Question:

ive got the original videologic digitheatre
in black with only dolby dig
recently ive noticed this annoying HUM
i cant be sure if it was there before, all i can say is i never noticed it before..
ive been emailing back and forth with the videologic technical support and ive now been told that the system was set up with a certain ammount of HUM, an acceptable ammount of HUM for its price range...
i dont think any ammount of hum is acceptable at any price range but still...
i have 2 questions:
1) can anyone else with the same system tell me if they have the same HUM or buzz?
(with nothing playing turn up the subwooofer loud and listen)
2) can somebody recommend a system that has NO HUM? if the film im watching goes silent i want my speakers to do the same.. what price range do i have to go to to acheive that?
thank you all
best
wob

I have had the same Digi Theatre DTS system for over a year now, and the only time I get any hum is from the sub when it's turned up a fair bit, but you would only hear it in silence, and even then it really aint that bad! The center, fronts, and rears are all fine though.
There have been a lot of threads in the past about people having trouble with 'hum' from the Digi Theatre, so if you try a search you should find quite a lot of info. And as far as I remember, videologic use to say that there should be no hum coming from the system, and quite a few people managed to get theirs sent back to get sorted...

they admitted to me (after going through a lot of problem checks) that yes, there is a certain level of hum that comes from the system... it's interesting that you mention the hum only coming from the sub.. imagine that sound coming from every speaker.. it gets very distracting!
they've said that its normal for the system but if it is i cant be dealing with it and am gonna have to get a replacement ASAP
thanks for your advice
EDIT:
This is what they told me:
"As the system as standard has this humm then it is not something we are able to fix as it is part of the design. We have other speaker systems for low end, however what you pay for may not be any better than what you have. If you want to move on up in Audio quality terms and less noise then you will need to start looking at mid range systems such as our Digitheatre Platinum."

Well I have the Platinum and that also has a hum from each speaker (more like a hiss actually).
I think cheap cables and a cheap dvd player can enhance the problem.

I had this problem on an original Digitheatre - as I pointed out to Jimmyboy here (http://Here.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=164589) the problem can be minimised :dork:

i 2 have the original digitheatre
goof.. i checked out your advice and will give it a try but im not sure it will work coz my hum (or buzz or whatever) is still there whether the decoder is switched on (or even plugged in) or not.. its just an issue between the sub and the speakers.. i can handle the hum from the sub, its the speaker noise thats annoying..
do you rekon your solution will still do the trick?
im off to find some wire..

Answers:

It should do - this solution is more for the speakers (it grounds the components) than the sub so should help
