Cheap but OK quality surround sound?
Question:

I am new to all this, and do not have a lot of money. I was just wondering what sort recommendations people had for low end surround packages. I have a Sony NS300 DVD player, so it would be nice to have Sony gear to match. What are the bottom end Sony packages like?
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. :)

A friend of mine has the Sony NSAV800 all in one. It's quite good in the small room he has it in. A rather neat and stylish all in one solution IMHO. If you have a DVD already and just want to try out Dolby Digital and DTS then i'd recommend the Videologic Digitheatre DTS platinum. I believe there's a thread in the bargain forum indicating they can be had for around £200. I paid nearer £300 for mine a couple of years back for the older DTS version and it's a fine introduction to digital surround sound. It won't hold a candle to decent separates but it does deliver the goods at a good price.

Thanks mate,
That is really useful. I can't afford expensive, high quality separates, plus I only have a small lounge, so this sounds perfect.

Empiredirect sell the 'Sony STRDB780S' at £189.62. A nice silver amplifier, 100 W x 5 power output, Dolby Digital / DTS / Dolby ProLogic / Dolby ProLogic II. Just got one myself. You can try Richer Sounds for a set of speakers, they have quite a range of speaker sets, some low cost ones too.
