Question:
I really wanna get into projection but i really cant afford to pay out loads for a projector im not to botherd about quality at the mo as long as i can have my films projected nice big im happy.
i have considerd making a DIY one out of a tv but i have a pretty big telly as it is and dont wanna be hanging a telly from my ceiling.
now i have to admit that i dont know to much about projection all i really know is the newer ones are smaller more expensive and better quality that the older ones and Bulbs are very expensive. what are those big chunky old school ones like they have in some pubs like would they be any good for what i want and how much can you pick them up second hand for nowadays.
any advice would be great
Cheers

you need to set a budget to give us some idea of what you want to spend. The "big & clunky" as you call it :D would be out as even second hand they are expensive, ideally you'll be looking for an LCD like ath Ae 100, either new or secondhand. the cheapest I've seeen em badied abot for new was around £700, but second hand may be better for you, but bulbs can be expensive.
Take a trawl aroud the avforums, their LCd section should give you some more info
Cheers for the advice i've decided i got bout £600 to play with so hopefully that should help im also gonna check around the av forums
well, I'm using a new Panny AE100, but just beaming on to a blank wall, painted with Dulux Icestorm 6, which seems to be the recommended colour for a cheap and cheerful 'screen'!!
Looks fine to me...
Got the colour mixed up at B&Q for about £8 a litre (only needed a litre).
i dug out some old home cinema mags last night and decided that i am gonna go for the AE100 so now all i gotta do is start looking anyone know of any good places.
Mjb1975-Got a B&Q near my house think i might just go pick a litre up cheers
