I need a new DVD player and am quite tempted by the multi-regional Pioneers DV454 and DV350 as mentioned in this stupidly long thread here .
AFAIK only difference is that the DV454 has optical and coaxial outputs whereas the 350 only has coaxial. Is optical any better as i will connect it up to my home cinema system, and already have my PS2 connected up through the optical input and would prefer not to change it.

No, it's not better. If your optical socket is being used, then use a coaxial lead for your DVD player, You won't notice any difference.
