DVD virgin
Question:

:help:
I am now looking to join the 21st century, the old VHS is a bit dodgy now and have decided to buy a DVD player, or rather my son has told me.
We have 2 TV only 1 of which has a scart socket. I was hoping to connect the DVD to the portable telly, which does not have a scart. The video i have connected to the TV however does have a scart. Can I connect the DVD through the video scart, or can I connect the DVD to the TV using a normal aerial connection.
Any help would be appreciated

Answers:

That's like going to a top fancy restaurant and asking for fish and chips.
You could do it, but you'd be defeating a lot of the point of owning a DVD player. Why don't you connect the video to the TV using the aerial lead, and use the scart for the DVD player?

Answers:

Depends if the Scart on the video accepts inputs or it's just for the picture from the video to the TV. Normally if you only have one scart on a video it cannot be used to plug another device through it's only there to output. However if you have 2 scarts on the back of the video it should be quite easy to plug a DVD into the back of it then a normal aerial connection from the video to the TV.

Answers:

Or just get a scart splitter and have both the DVD player & the video on the same scart socket

Answers:

Its best you do what Tyler Durden suggested and connect it to your TV with the scart socket by purchasing a scart splitter, if your portable TV does'nt have a scart socket I can only assume it only has an aerial socket, a DVD player does not use a coaxial aerial cable.
If you try and connect your DVD player through your VCR you may get picture problems. All DVD players and DVD movies have 'macrovision' copy protection built into them, if you try and pass a DVD player signal through your VCR to your TV the macrovision signal may kick in and all you will see on your TV is pulsating colours and interference.

Answers:

Some DVD players can be hacked or modded to remove Macrovision, but a scart splitter is still the better option.
