Question:
i have the denon 2802 amp and have noticed a setting to switch cinema eq on or off, what does this actually do as i could here very little difference between switching it on or off.
Supposed to tame overly bright soundtracks. Cinemas are full of people which damps the sound (as opposed to damp people) and this filter is supposed to re-create the in-cinema experiance.
What next, added crisp bag rustle and random coughs?
Leave it off, all it does is rob the detail from the treble.

Most cinema sound mixes allow for the fact that the centre speaker is behind the screen and therefore higher frequencies need boosting somewhat. The Cinema setting reduces the higher frequencies to recreate the effect of the centre being behind the screen.
Whether most DVD soundtracks are mixed in the same way as their cinema counterparts, I do not know. I suspet that the DVD mixes do not have the treble boosted in the same way as the cinema soundtracks.
Hope this helps.
thanks for the replies i know that r1 fims that are mixed by miacasa tell you that they are mixed for home theatres and thus no extra reequalisation is required
I also have a 2802 and never use the EQ, it just seems to soften the treble to me :nono:
