"upgrading" Bios/flash on normal DVD
Question:

I have heard from someone that you can download a file to upgrade the software/firmware in a DVD player (not for PC) to allow it to play CDR's etc, is this true... if so how....?

Answers:

It depends on your dvd.
Have a look at the links on this thread

Why do you feel you require a flash ? What is your drive not doing ?

Answers:

The inability to playback CD-Rs or recordable DVD media will be a limitation of the hardware (ie the loader/laser mechanism) rather than the coding instructions (firmware).

If its a Toshiba it'll need chipping to make it region free.
I doubt if you will ever play CDR's on it because of its age.

oh well, I got it chipped years ago, so that's ok....
what are the chances of a PS2 playing CDR's without chipping? Zero? :)

Sounds like an SD3109 or SD200e, either way it won`t read CD-R even if you mod it (if its not been modded yet). You need a machine that has the ability to read CD-R discs, older TOshiba and panas didn`t have this feature.
