Eyup all,
Please move this if it's in the wrong place!
I'm living in rented accommodation, in an area that, according to the postcode checker, doesn't receive FreeView channels. However, the house does have a satellite dish. If we bought a digibox, would we be able to get the free channels without having to buy a subscription from Sky?

Yes. You do need to get a viewing card, but it's free.

Yup, as said, you just need a viewing card (see here (http://www.brymar.co.uk/info/bbc-itv/bbc-itv.html) for more information).
It should be as simple as plugging a receiver in as long as the disk and LNB are setup and working ok :)

Bear in mind though, that you won't get the same channels as you would with Freeview. You still get the BBC free to view channels and whole lot of other free to air stuff (79 shopping channels, anyone?), but don't go looking for ITV2, UK History, UK Bright Ideas, The Hits, TMF, ftn, or Sky Sports News, 'cos they ain't part of the deal !!



..can get a digibox "free" from sky - well for a £120 installation fee, if you contract to keep it plugged into the phone line for 12 months

Hmm. Is there a list anywhere showing the channels I'd get?



As from the end of May new and old sky free to view boxes will not need a card it will be unscrambled and also someone said on this forum that boomerang is now scrambled :oh-hum: Free (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds10651.html)
