Krytens the one to ask but i'm pretyy sure its 6.1.

Cheers Ed, my 2802 is going to my brother in law and im probably going for one of these with a 656a :D
any idea's what the 7.1 inputs means then??

Answers:

Its 6.1 Discrete using the built-in decoder, but can output to 7.1 speakers, or with an external decoder will run in true 7.1 (when the standard is available). I think this is a superb budget amp IMO and am very impressed with the 6.1 decoding it does (DTS-ES Discrete & Matrix and DD-EX)
Any other questions let me know.

Thanks kryten. is S-Video switching just switching between 2 sources?
and whats the difference between the S and K models as i cant seem to find any?
last question, what is the remote like? the picture shows a bog standard one, yet when you click for the remote spec it says its a touch screen remote.

The S model is Silver in colour and the K model is black other than that no difference. The 811 is due to be replaced with the 812 this summer, 812 was announced in January CES, Las Vegas, The Pioneer USA site has details on the 812 but there does not seem that much different.
AVland have a nice big close up pic of the remote, The link on the Pioneer site on the remote control type is not right.

812 :- http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/vsxd812/index.htm
And homecinemaheaven have got the title wrong on the page on the Pioneer 811 that's all it is not an 8.1 Reciever :)

The reomote is the one posted by Scott, but is very useable, but I also have a Pronto.
I don't use the S-Video switching and I have the US model so it has component switching too, however looking at mine it has 3 S-video input on rear and one on the front and two outputs on the rear, plust component and composite video. Also has assignable optical and coaxial digital inputs.

Scott, mark i could kiss you both  just got to find somewhere to demo it now, i think my local sevenoaks know i go in for a demo then buy online so they treat me like a right pain in the arse

Answers:

7 oaks have the amp listed at £349, there aren't many people selling for much less than that. I reckon you can negotiate a purchase price of £325 from 7oaks - definitely rather pay the extra few quid and buy from them than from an anonymous web site. Did you buy the Eggs from them in the end? it's always good for your pocket if you can become known by a dealer - I've spent upwards of £1500 with 7oaks in the last 6 months & could have maybe saved £100 by shopping with the mail order guys - BUT I've just been offered an ex display Arcam CD72T at £160 below retail.

Answers:

Not got my eggs yet, but ill be buying them soon, im getting rid of my 2802 in favour of the pioneer ove already sold my Denon 2800 dvd player on favour of the 656a, im also replacing my Wharfdale evo rears with Keff eggs to save room. hopefully with the money ive made from downgrading and when ive paid my credit card off, i can afford a Plasma or huge RPTV :D

Not too sure whats been going on there, looks like the db for this has been corrupted - just re-uploaded it;)
Its 6.1, just like the marantz Sr4300, etc. 7.1 Pioneers are the 1011 and 2011 (and VSAAX10).
Hope that clears it up?
As for price, it was £329 until a couple of days ago, the only reason its back at 350 is simply down to availability, Pioneer have hardly any available receivers at the minute:( got em in stock though.

Thanks Justin its clear now, do you price match mate?? www.hifibitz.co.uk have the Amp on at £329.99 and the 656a at £339.99 which is a bit of a saving mate.

Don`t PM normally as HFB / AVland never show stock availability, offer IFC, or indeed are stores where you can go and buy at that price;)
But for forum members I don`t mind - if you want em, do em both for £325 each, plus £10 ND delivery, and will chuck in a optical cable to connect them together;) Probably easiest way is to order it via the HCH site, then email me direct with the order number so I can amend it - can`t enter details into the forum offers at the minute as I`m changing them to Powerbuys.
What colour you looking at?
Cheers
