Another Home Cinema Newbie - help please
Question:

Guys,
After owning a DVD player for almost 3 years I've decided to finally take the plunge and get myself a Home Cinema setup.
Having had a browse through the Forum, and a look at some Home Cinema websites, I realise that there's a huge amount of choice, so I'm after some advice.
I'm primarily after something that will happily hook up to my Sony DVP-S725 player, with a secondary use as a stereo amp for my Pace DTR-735 ondigital box (so that the g/f can listen to Kerrang without the TV being on, and so I can have Five Live F1 commentary on in half-decent quality and avoid having to listen to that **** James Allen).
I've taken a stab in the dark, using the "What Hifi" 2002 award winners as a guide, and I'm thinking about getting The Yamaha RXV430RDS amp, with the Mission M72i Home Cinema speaker package.
Would the amp and speakers work well together?
Ta in advance :)

Okay, Sony DVD player is tip top even though now superceded, will work well with modern AV amps. The speakers you have selected will be fine. The amp mmm.. whilst it is a very fine amp, it's lacking a few of the toys. If you can afford an extra £100 (maybe less) I'd think that the next set of AV amps are more "future proofed" and will stop you wanting to upgrade sooner than buying the 430 will. The Marantz 4300 is the new What hifi king (not that that really means anything) & can be found for considerably less than it's list price of £320 - have a look on pricerunner (http://uk.pricerunner.com/sound-and-vision/sound/receivers/) . The Marantz also has the advantage of superior stereo performance over the yamaha.
Hope that helps

I just got the marantz 4300 and wharfedale diamond 8.2 speakers and i cant fault it.
Plus the wharfedales look nicer than the missions.

Ta for that.
Not sure about the looks being nicer. Are they better performers than the Missions?
