Looking to spend around 2500 quid on a plasma telly
Question:

Hi,
I've got myself about 2500 quid and want to buy a plasma telly with it. Can anyone recommend (with reasons) a telly at around this price please? One of the ones I was looking at was the 'LG MZ42PZ17' which Richer Sounds have at 2500 quid. Is this a sensible choice?
I guess I'll also need a tuner for any tellies that don't have one integrated. Recommendations for these would also be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any info provided.

You can use an old VCR ( :gag: ) for a tuner

The Samsung is meant to be better than the LG and cheaper..
The Richer sounds LG is for £2000 is ex-demo so maybe it's a 1 off?
I'm getting a Samsung 42" v soon..
Cool you can use a VHS as a Tuner.. - that'll save me over £100 :)
Need some Wall mounts and i'm ready to flash my cash or type in CC no online :)

Doesn't say ex-demo in the WHF ad...
In the same ad the Panasonic 42" for £3k is what I'd buy if I had the dosh...
Not sure on the tuner aspect, but I think some plasma monitors require a board installed to add display connectivity options..

I'm going for the Toshiba 42WP27B at the end of the month, seeing as it's a re-badged Panasonic, i kinda trust it more than Samsung/LG (although i love my LG monitor). The £2k LG one at Richersounds is the older LG MZ42PZ13 and is an ex-demo one, so i wouldn't touch it without seeing it first.
Plasmas are a hard thing to buy, i started off settling for a £2k Samsung, then i saw the Tosh, then there's the RGB>Component box, wall bracket, new dvd player, leads, new pants.. the list gets bigger every time i look at it. I keep on telling myself it's worth it but it is a lot of dosh.
If i were you i'd spend as much as you can, eat bread and potatoes for 6 months, then buy some more kit...

I think it's worth spending a little more and getting the Panasonic or Toshiba - they really are much better. Where do you intend to put it? You might need a stand or wall bracket which should be budgeted for.
I'd consider buying one of the cheap freeview digital boxes for TV since the picture will be much better (and widescreen).

hmm.. i might save more up and get a Panasonic 42" with Tuner and wall mount.. do you think for £3500 this is viable? i'ved got £5000 max budget but need £1500 for a top range DVD player with full 5.1 capabilities and also a kick ass Amp and some decent 5.1 speakers.. or maybe you can recomend one of those all in one packages (Multi DVd player/Amp/speakers)
but christ i need a higher CC limit..

Get the 42" Panasonic or the Pioneer 43"
Both are Top Drawer Plasma's (I have the Panny) and Love it to bits... mine is wall mounted and it seems much more imposing on the wall rather.... than on a stand

Have to agree, if you "only" have about 2k - 2.5k, then don`t bother and save up, or get a rear projector tv. I`ve owned a pana, and currently on a pioneer. I`ve doe some installs on the LG (and the JVC clone) among others, and theres simply no comparison against the Pioneer or panasonics.
To get the best performance that plasma has to offer, you have to buy one of the best screens out there, which are Pioneer or Panasonic. All the others share similar screens and corners are cut in the electronics, etc. Its the same with anything else, you get what you pay for, and a £2k plasma is not going to outperform or offer the same performance as one at twice the price.
Its also bearing in mind, that both the panasonic and pioneer models will be changing in a few months time again, so if you save up now, you`ll be able to pick up a pioneer or pana cheaper or go for the next generation.
