Installing Sky+ youself?
Question:

I'm just wondering if this is possible? I currently have a Sony Sky box with a free to view card and am considering moving to Sky+.
Does anyone have any experience of installing it themselves? Since all that's involved (as far as I can see) is swapping the LNB for a quad LNB, running an extra co-ax cable to the box and connecting the box, I'm reluctant to pay Sky £100 for the privilige (since I'm not on a subscription package).
Do Sky allow people to purchase Sky+ boxes without an authorised installation? I'm assuming that if I ordered Sky+ from Sky themselves they'd insist on them installing. What about retailers such as Currys or Dixons? (much as I loath them) Alternatively, I might be able to pursuade a local installer to sell me a box on it's own.
Does anyone have any thoughts / experiences on this.
BTW, I'm aware I'd still have to pay the £10 pm to use the Sky+ service, boooooo.

LOL! I live in a bungalow so that won't be a problem ;)

I sort of did it myself too. My problem was finding somewhere to sell me the box without a Sky installation!
I spent over an hour in Comet trying to persuade them that they could just sell me the box but they wouldn't belive me. Most of that time was spent on hold on the Sky CS line. After all that time they finally agreed it was possible but then the computer wouldn't let them just enter the sale without an install so I gave up in disgust at that point!
From reading the forums it seems I was unlucky and as said in the previous post, most people can just walk in and buy one. Before leaving the shop though you should open the box and make sure that the LNB is in there! I've read that Sky now supply the LNB when they do the install and it is no longer included in the retail box.

Is it possible to just pay the £10 p/m and NOT have a subscription?

I wouldn't have thought so.

Whats the point of sky + without a normal sub.
I also doubt you could get a £10 sky plus sub but no sky channels.

I have looked into getting Digital Sky box with out telephone line so i found out that i have to pay for a unsubsidized box about £300+. As for getting an unsubsidized boxes you just phone up a local Sky installer and phone around for the cheapest. I am still going to get Sky some day and install it myself
