Question:
I've been shopping around for a new (my first :D) widescreen TV. I've been looking at a couple of Panasonic's in particular. One thing I've noticed is that all the 100Hz ones seem to have a sorta 'digital' picture. I was testing DVDs on them. The 50Hz ones looked really nice, but the 100Hz ones looked like someone had dropped the bit rate on the DVD. They were pretty grainy and blocky.
So is this just me, the way the TV's were set up (RGB and S-video via Scart) or what? Is it worth around £150 or so for 100Hz? I'm only going to be using it for DVDs. Cheers
This has come up a number of times and the response is always split. Some can't stand the flicker of a 50Hz screen (especially on larger screen), other don't notice any flicker and dislike the artefact they notice on 100Hz screens. It probably is a case of see for yourself, but that's very hard in most showrooms. Alternatively you might look for a set which has 50 - 100Hz switchable, I beleive they exist,
I personally am very happy with my 100Hz Panasonic although occasionally, I notice some artefacts on fast moving objects going across the screen.
I've noticed the flicker on the larger screens, but on the 28" I can't see a thing. But I can see all the artifacts on the 100Hz and it's definately off putting. Not worth the extra £150 for me then I suppose.
Ive got a 32" tv which is 50Hz and I only notice the flicker occasionally and it doesnt bother me...
I also didnt think spending £150 - £200 extra was worth while
yeah if i study my picture hard especially when watching footie or fast motion i really notice the artifacts bit of a bummer really
why is life always compromise:(
