Best cloth/way to clean DVDs?
Question:

Bit of a :dork: question, but what are the best cloths/way to clean DVDs? I've been using my glasses cloth. I assume that's ok as it cleans my £150 lenses without marking them.

Answers:

Not such a :dork: question. I've wondered the same thing myself.
What I've found is that while my glasses cloth doesn't scratch my glasses (plastic, but very scratch-resistant), it DOES leave lots of little minor scratches on my DVDs (which must be made of the most scratch-prone plastics ever developed! Bloody DVD manufacturers....grrr.... )
So far the best method of cleaning I've found is by rubbing some Fairy liquid on the surface of the disc, and rinsing off thoroughly. Unfortunately this seems to leave annoying watermarks which needs to be wiped off somehow. Someone once suggested that wiping a disc on denim jeans seems to be a good way of cleaning a disc. I've tried it on some lesser discs and it does seem to work - provided your jeans are very clean and not dirt-encrusted!
If you can find some, proper lense tissue might be another solution.

When i got my Nikon slr camera i bought a lens cleaner for it, and i have found that it actually removed a few of the scratches!!!
I also have found that leaving the discs in a bucket of water, warm enough to feel it on the tip of your fingers for about half hour and then drying them by dabbing them with a soft cloth like a lens cleaner works a real treat :)
