Question:
At the moment my sub is on the floor, sub on floor and kids don't really go together, I am afraid of them spilling coke or something, would it be ok to put on a shelf, shelf is about 3 ft high.
The general consensus(sp?) is that a sub can be placed anywhere, as low frequency's aren't directional,
so putting it on a shelf shouldn't be a problem in that sense, what you will have to watch out for is the vibrations from the sub, the shelf will need to be a pretty solid affair not to vibrate & cause unwanted sounds.
Another thing you will need to consider is the weight of the sub, most of them are quite heavy.
I'd be very wary about putting a sub on a shelf, if it is just a little PC style sub then it would probably be OK (though vibrations might be a problem) If it's anything more substantial than that then I would definitely not put it on a shelf, if the weight of the sub itself doesn't tear the shelf straight off the wall then I'm sure a few weeks of vibrations probably would!
