WS TV help please
Question:

I have a Sharp 28JW74.
1) The picture quality is good however, during dark parts of a film picture you can clearly see a light flickering at the top left and right of the screen.
This is most noticable during the end credits of a movie because the screen is obviously all black & <s>NTSC stuff</s> non-anamorphic dvds (IE TV in 16:9 zoom mode) via RGB scart seems to enhance the problem.
It's only noticable when watching the TV in the dark but as I like to watch films with the light off I'd really like to find out what the problem could be and fix it.
Anyone got some ideas please ?.
2) I can't get the TV to output a true 4:3 aspect ratio.
Whenever I set the TV to 4:3 the image is stretched to the same aspect as anamorphic widescreen mode.
My dvd player is set to '16:9 widescreen', even if I change it to '4:3 letterbox' the TV still refuse's to show a proper 4:3 image via the dvd player.
Any ideas ?.

With regards to (1), my Toshiba WS exhibits a "similar" problem but only when I watch WS films in one of those new-fangled modes, ie not 16:9 mode.
Since most of my films are anamorphic it's not really been an issue for me.

Come to think of it you might be on to something there.
Looks like I might have been wrong when I said NTSC made the problem worse, I think non-anamorphic dvds (IE 16:9 zoom) is what seems to make the problem worse.
It just so happens the NTSC dvds I watched on it were non-anamorphic while the PAL ones I watched were anamorphic hence me thinking the problem was worse on NTSC sources.
Still have no answers for why it's doing it though.

problem 2 happens on my Panasonic TV as well when using AV1. For some reason AV1 will only output 16:9 or zoomed pictures doesn't want to play ball with regard to 4:3 pictures, so any 4:3 stuff i have i play on the PC or watch it stretched on the tv.

Just had a thought.
My Platinum DTS subwoofer is placed directly underneath the TV set while the center speaker is placed on top.
Could this be causing the problem ?.
The speakers themselves are fully shielded, and I even removed the system and placed it away from the TV to check if that was the problem yet the fault was still there. But thinking about it, would I need to move the speakers away from the TV for a certain amount of time before the problem went away ? (assuming it was the speakers creating the problem).
