Question:
Bought a Marantz 7300 receiver from SuperFi on Saturday. Firstly the remote is faulty so it has to go back anyway, but that's beside the point.
It's a 105w per channel receiver, and yet I have to crank it more than my previous Yammy 592 which had 65w per channel to the front L & R speakers. Is that normal?!?
If so, it might end up being refunded rather than replaced, I don't like to have to drive things too hard, hence I bought such a powerful receiver. If it does go back, does anyone have experience with the new Sony 1080 receiver? The guy in Superfi said Marantz are "quiet" amps where Sony are "loud" amps, does that make sense to anyone else?!?
Want something that's good for music as well as movies, another reason I went for Marantz...
My 5200 is the same - you just have more delicate adjustment on the volume control - so you need to 'turn' it more. I tend to have mine on -12 to -8 for movies (depending if the neighbours are in!)
Yer ohms set correctly ?
Me ohms?!? I didn't know I could alter 'em on this 'ere amp... Can I?
AndrewJ, I watched Episode II yesterday on it and had it set to about -10... By my reckoning that's about 3/4 of the way up! Surely that can't be good for it?
Some have a rear switch to 'match' the speakers in use. Yours might.
Mike.
A volume control is logarithmic, so is not a linear rise in level for rotation of the knob. Never actaully tried to see exactly how far mine goes up, but it certainly goes a LOT louder than it is at -8!
Ta V muchly for the responses. Think I'll get the unit swapped for one without a broken remote / IR sensor and stick with Marantz then.
