Question:
Should be a few of you who’ve have had it for a while now.
How good is it?
I like it. On some programs is does a really good job for producing a 5.1 output from a 2.0 input and on others its at least as good as DPL. I find more modern TV material certainly benefits the most. I am reasonably impressed overall with the DPL-II from my current amp and would make sure any future amp/recievers I get will have it.
Pants :( i thought it was naff for the gamecube and really disapointing. i was well chuffed when i upgraded to an AMP with DPL-II but its no-where near as good as i thought it would be. ive never rated DPL though.
I don't think there are much (if any!) UK programs that are broadcasted in DPL-II, even programs that are broadcasted in DPL-I rarely use the rear surrounds to full effect... :oh-hum:

I didn't think DPL-II was a different encoding.
I though it the pro-logic 2 decoder that just put a simulated stereo effect on the rears (that were mono in DPL-1 )
Which reminds me - why did you get 2 rear speakers on a pro-logic set up. They both outputted exactly the same , so why didn't they just give one rear speaker

You are right, DPL-II takes its rears from the mono read matrixed track of the DPL track and uses the stereo track with this to work out which side the rear effects should be played.
The reason that you have two rear speakers on a DPL system is the same as why having a 7.1 speaker set-up for 6.1 sound is better, the human ear can distinguish where the sound is coming from (front center to rear) if there are two speakers rather than one. (at least I think thats the reason).
All i'll say guys it's better than pro logic by a long way & more dvd systems are getting on board with it.

I'd second this. I've been watching the series 24 on DVD and it produced a good 5.1 effect from a 2.0 input.
