Question:
Any advice as i'ved decided to go the Rear Projection route.. Plasma's are way to expensive at the moment for slightly better quality video..
Anyway which 42-44" is the best in your opinions.. i'ved seen a Tosh 42" for 1050 inc vat is that good (it's sounds very good to me though)
My brother's just got a Sony kp-44ps2u & its shagastic, well worth £1099:) from here (http://www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk/)
hmm just checked they seem to be ex-display/graded stock on those.. i want brand new goods..
Have a look at the Sony kp44px2...i've had 3 RP tv's(Pioneer,Tosh,Sony).this is by far the best tv i've ever owned, and it looks the biz:clap:
i have had the Sony kp44px2 for a few months now and its a very nice tv
Hmm looks like i'll be going witht eh Sony then :)
thanks guys.. :)
I have a Panasonic 47" WS and love it. It is a US model but seems well built and great picture. Not sure what the UK equivilant model is though.
Unless they've changed alot ( which I doubt ) the Toshiba 43" 4:3 was always a forum favourite - like countless others I bought one a couple of years ago and I'm still delighted with it. Having just jumped on the AE100 projector bandwagon the Tosh may get a little less use but I'll probably keep it for watching TV...
Simon
we've been looking around ourselves... we want to buy 2nd hand of Grade1 class, so that site is great (thanks!)
but is this any good for the money? at £1k off, sounds a good deal, but i can't find any reviews anywhere for it :( *thats the problem with the damn manufactures... too many models!!*
http://www.qed-uk.com/?i=0_nBtc1TI01m&vp=6&bg=173&bp=641s&bi=0
52" Thomson for £1500. looks gorgeous, but is it a good buy? sound isn't so important as we'll have a prologic/5.1 or DTS system setup anyway, so its mainly picture we're interested in... tnx!
That's the one I've been looking at Jay :)
It was only £1452 yesterday
curse them!
its a conspiracy i tells ya ! :)
i still haven't really found that much info on it.. but i've just been reading about the whole <£1000 sony rptv that people grabbed at the beginning of the month... we wont be buying for months yet (moving into a new house at the beginning of next semester) but its nice to look early.. especially cos A/V hunting is fun ! :D
Cool a 52" for £1500..maybe too good to be true?
Thomson isn't one of the good makes but it still could be good..
oh yes just found this site..
Direct Link to Pricerunner (http://uk.pricerunner.com/sound-and-vision/vision/tv/127342/prices)
the above URL has quite a few reviews for the model you want.. out of 43 reviews it has a 3.7/5 rating
and another supplier a bit more expensive has 32 reviews and has give it a average score of 4/5 so all in all judging from Customer reviews it's quite good.. :)
im afraid pricerunner doesn't work like that :) the reviews are for the *stores* and not the actual model you're interested in.
annoying isn't it :(
http://www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/TVDVDCombis/Thomson/Thomson44TW611.php was all I could find, I'd imagine it to be pretty similar.
There's a guy on avforums raving about it.
I saw one at the weekend and it looked pretty good :D
heh yeah, thats the only page i found too :)
the picture rating isn't too inspiring which is a shame... the audio side is covered by our amps/speakers, so we dont even need anything about Nicam really for the tv heh :)
Rear Pro seems to get slack and i can't really work out why. im kinda disappointed with a lot of the plasma sets i've seen, and side by side, i even preferred the RearPro tv i saw earlier (just a cheap samsung model) to the double-the-price plasma above it (at the right angle heh), and for whats basically a tv for a bunch of students to watch tv and films on (and euro 2004 of course) i think a rear pro is the best choice. if we could start hacking the roof away to install a projector, that'd be cool, but i doubt that'd be alright with our landlady heh :)
still gotta work out where the money will come from :D if one of those sony 44p2u's goes for £1k on that site again, we'll probably be able to sell it for more than we paid for it heh :)
LOL jay .. yep your right i was just checking quick without too much research - oh well for me it's either the Lightish Samsung or the Sony.. Samsung looks better and is only 31 kg (light for a Rear Pro)
the sony kp44ps2 from robert whyte are A grade seconds. Apparently they are just damaged boxes(mate rang up about them) and they are an absolutely superb tv.
review can be found at http://www.home-entertainment.co.uk/firstlook_read.asp?ID=1686
The sony really is fantastic, if i had the cash free i'd buy one in a heartbeat:) not only is it the finest looking tv i've ever seen, but the onboard sound is stunning as well.
hmm which the px2 or the ps2u?
both 44" are they really just the same but diff model no's?
Looks like it's a 95% Sony Rear Pro for me then.. and a cool Sony home theatre setup will go with it.. :)
My brothers is a ps2u.
the ps2u has sony's version of Pixel+ and duel receivers(for picture in picture and split screen text on one sid and tv on the other). The px2 is still very good, but not even close to the ps2.
I bought the £1100 sony kp44ps2 from robert whyte.its has auto convergence ,selectable 50htz or 100 htz, picture in picture, picture + text , 2-way 4-speaker system and its a very good looking set. Well under half whats Tesco.com charging at the moment.Although it is a graded one, they say it's look and work like new ,came straight from Sony factory not demo or second hand.
Save myself £500 buying this instead of the px2 and got a better spec telly:thumbs:
LOL ok you'ved sold me this time.. the ps2u will be mine..
44" for £1100 ah yes.. Saving Private Ryan + my DTS 5.1 speaker setup .. gotta buy it now..
Edited to 44" (i knew that :) )
No,no Nimak..not 42" --It's a 44".Glad you agree with us that the Sony is the business;)
Now I'm tempted by the Sony :p Anyone have any photos of it?
http://www.sony.co.uk/
theres no ps2u on roberwhyte for me... and never has been, so im guessing they're all gone ?
we've got a good few months till we can buy ours anyway, so mainly checking out the general haunts (seen a few 50" LCD Sony's on ebay for around the £1,300 mark, and i think they look pretty sexy , and then theres the 50" LCD on letsbuyit for <£3k (bit too much for us) the 50" thompson on QED for £1500 etc etc... so dont mind waiting , as theres plenty of deals to be had it seems :D )
JayX, its here (http://www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk/shop2/rear/son_kp44ps2EXDEMO.htm)
Bought a Tosh RPTV from them last year.
JayX fella - try http://www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk/shop2/rear/son_kp44ps2EXDEMO.htm
cheers guys, nicely hidden away there, i've only ever gone to TVs > Rear Pro etc
but *cries* i want , and have not the money nor the storage space quite yet... i hope they have plenty, but i doubt it :(
I just bought the Sony too :D :D
Not being delivered till I move though so will have to wait a week or two :(
I think the lurkers have been watching this thread though, they had 10 in today and 8 have gone already  More stock is arriving next week :)
Good thing I sold my 32" yesterday

Do you know if this comes with a stand. On the website it states NO CABINETS AVAILABLE. Or do they mean the extra cabinets you can buy that fit on the side.
Also I see delivery is £79, does this include setting it up or just for delivery.
Looks a good buy though :)
It does indeed mean the side cabinets, it comes with the main 'stand' :)
I believe the £79 is delivery only.

Thanks for the reply. Looking better still with the stand.
I suppose it comes with a years guarantee.
Good price, you would be hard pushed to find one secondhand for this price.
I was assured it will be boxed, as new with a Sony 12 month guarantee as normal.
Monster bargain :)
The downside is you can't put any dvd or video in the stand.
 What can you get in there???
Nothing really.the top half of the cabinet is for the built in speakers, the bottom half is just a piece of glass panel.
You are happy with it though, yes??
I am really happy with it.The picture quality is spot on .I love watching sports and Especially films on sky .Even though I have to re-arrange half the living room to accommdate it.I ordered a dvd with built in 6.1 decoder and amp + 6 speakers to complete my home cinema set up.
