Denon AV Receiver > TV connection query
Question:

When I first bought my Denon 3801 the retailer sold me a ton of scart to phono leads which confused the hell out of me but enabled me to "video switch" (?) When I relocated my new TV on its "open stand" from a cabinet I had I just connected the basic leads (so that less "spaghetti" could be seen hanging out the back etc) ...
This has however resulted in my losing the 3801 menu on the TV (as there is no video lead going anywhere near the 3801 presumably) ...
Is it possible to just connect a single yellow video lead from my TV to my 3801 ? If yes where on the 3801 should I connect it ?
TIA - Paul ;)

Answers:

On my 2802 The one I use is 'Monitor' for the menu screen and just use an old S/vid cable connected to the Tv

whilst on the subject of denon recievers, i have the 2801. since i've connected up my new phipips 963sa dvd player i now get DIRECT DIGITAL displayed on the amp instead of either DOLBY DIGITAL/DTS.
Does anybody know why this is?

Yes, take it from the 'monitor / video out' on the back of the amp to the 'video in' on your tv. You may have to convert the tv end to a scart type euro-connector to plug it in to the tv though.

ljp - thanks (& you other helpful types) would the lead go in the av in under the front panel flap (where you stick a camcorder or whatever) ?
barthez - is the phillips a dvd-a player ? coz it sounds like that display means you are using the decoder on the philips rather than the one(s) in the 2801 - on my 3801 to select the dvd player decoder you press "ext in" & "direct" comes up in the display ... to go back to the 3801 decoder I press "mode" then "auto" and let the 3801 take over - HTH ... If you want to plug it into the front you can - this would mean you wont have to convert to a scart.
As you wanted to keep things tidy you may be better plugging into the back with a scart convertor.
Remember that your TV wont be able to auto detect a signal using only a video input. So you will have to manually change to the AV channel and alter W/S modes yourself

ljp - thanks again - i wouldnt want to leave the lead connected for obvious reasons just as long as i can make adjustments when required with the on screen menu ... Paul ;)
