Question:
Thinking of shifting my room round this evening, and want to make more space to sit and watch DVDs. However, this means putting the TV unit in front of the window - is this such a bad thing?
With the curtains closed guess it can't be that bad surely or is it always best to have the unit against a wall???
My TV is in front of the window and it's no problem at all - what was your concern?
If the sun is streaming in you shut the curtains but most viewing is at night anyway.
My thinking was whether anything can suffer damage from draft, too much heat from sun etc etc?
Sun in this country !!!!!!!!
Now worries there then. Don't think it will be a problem.

I have my tosh in the bay of a s-e facing window. Had no problems with it. Just got my draper screen which fits perfectly at the edge of the bay as well!

My room only gets sunshine first thing in the morning so hopefully by about 10-11 it should be fine...guess will just have to keep curtains shut ;)
No problems at all here, too :)
The sun never shines in my back rooms anyway (where my AV room is), and draughts are not a problem either.
I've had a TV in front of the window (and radiator) for almost 12 years (not the same TV all that time) and have never had any problems. The sun shines on it all morning.
Only "problem" is having to shut the curtains when it's very bright outside - but I probably would anyway no matter where it was positioned.
Don't forget the local scallies will be able to see your kit more easily - they'll probably just hold an auction right outside to see who wants what. :D
No seriously, my stuff is very close to a window and I have no problems with it.

I have wondered about that in the past. Hopefully it's not too much of a problem for me as I'm at the end of a small cul de sac, so no passing pedestrians, and have a reasonably long drive/front garden.
I also think TVs are much more noticeable from outside, when they are switched on, if they face the window rather than back on to it. As long as you have nets in the window it shouldn't be that noticeable backing on to the window.
