Question:
Just bought an ALBA 108 for the princely sum of £50 + VAT from MAKRO. Seems fine (MR out of the box) but won't play VCD/SVCD which I need as I make my own from my Camcorder footage.
Is it possible to hack the player to play these?
Anyone? Or know where I can look?
From VCDHelp (no idea if it works):
To play VCD Disk:
Power on the unit
Insert Disk
Wait for display to show Stop
Press Program
Press 1
Press Enter
Press Play
To Play SVCD Disk:
Power on the unit
Insert Disk
Wait for display to show Stop
Press Program
Press 1
Press Enter
Press Play
Press Skip (>>|)
The disk will now play from a couple of minutes in. Use the rewind (<<) button to move to the begining but press play before the counter gets to zero.
Thats it ! all from the Remote control with no timings, works every time. For some reason they seem to prevent you playing SVCD with a counter of zero

You press the 'Go To' button while the disc is loading. It's a little annoying, as it doesn't always work first time but it certainly works.
It's the only thing wrong with the Alba 108 for the money.
I use it as my second (bedroom system) unit and to be honest i can't tell the difference between that and my Pioneer 350.
Thanks Guys I'll give it a go:thumbs:
