Question:
Hello all,
I have just acquired (for free) an old Nokia freeview box after having a new "digital" strength aerial fitted.
Tried it out just and I can get a good picture on most of the channels. On some of the channels (the music ones mainly), I get pixellation and stuttering sound.
Can anything be done to solve this? Would a signal booster sort this out?
Thanks in advance,
Pete.
PS. According to the postcode checker, I should not be able to recieve digital at all, but I'm still determined as some of the channels are working fine!
It is the box itself i suspect as they are worst of all the ex-Itv digital boxes and then it could not. It might be the area that you are in. Booster work and sometimes not it is just a gamble:)

I think you've answered your own question there. A signal booster would probably help though.

The question I asked was will a signal booster help!!
As I said, many of the channels are working fine, so I can only assume that I should be able to recieve others too with a slightly better signal.
Your problem could be your aerial. If you have a narrow band aerial, some of the multiplexes could be within its frequency band while others are not. This would have the effect of giving you good reception for those channels on the in-band multiplexes and poor reception on the others.
Alternatively, if you are in a borderline area, two multiplexes (Digital3&4 and SDN) run a 64QAM modulation scheme whereas the others use the more robust 16QAM scheme. You may be receiving enough signal strength to receive the 16QAM multiplexes but not enough for the 64QAM ones.
If the latter case, a booster may help you. If the former, a new aerial will be required.

Give a signal booster a try. It worked for me.
If you buy one from Argos you can always take it back if it does not help ;)
I hope your new aerial is a wideband one. Because as Underscore says , if it isn't then one of the frequencies could be out of the aerial's channel band. My current areial suffers from this problem - i can't recieve the multiplex that carries ITV 1 and 2, channel 4 and a few others (this channel is outside the aerial's band).
Thanks all. My aerial has only just been fitted and the bloke who fitted it said it was intended for digital. I can only presume that this means wideband - it's certainly bigger than the other one!
Sorry for getting all techie on you all!!
Pete.
