Connecting DVD player to OLD TV
Question:

I have been given a cheap DVD player to go into my bedroom. However the bedroom TV is over 20 years old, so surprisingly enough does not have a scart socket! The only sockets on back of the TV is the aeriel one, and there is a coax and scart on back of DVD player. I dont want to buy a new TV as this one has perfect picture and is HUGE! Is there anyway to connect this TV upto the DVD player? Or is it off to ebay with the DVD player?

Answers:

If think maplins do a RF modulator for about £30. I looked into this for a friend, but got them to get a new TV instead.

Perfect, thanks very much!!

Before I got my new TV, I had a similar problem. I just used a video recorder as the modulator.
Dixons have cheap VCR's at £40, so it might be worth considering instead of a standalone modulator... (EDIT: making sure that it has a SCART->in socket!!!).

I was going to suggest the VCR route as well, just ensure that you don't end up with a macrovision problem by passing the signal through the video.

Cheers guys,
Im gonna try the vcr route before i shell out on something im probably only gonna use for another 6 months or so. Only problem is that i use the vcr at the moment to get sound from NTL to my HC amp. However, i think id rather have bedroom dvd player than louder sound for CSI and Boomtown!

Answers:

Well if you go VCR you must make sure the DVD player can have the Macrovision protection disabled.
I used an RF Mudulator for a while last year while I was living in a hotel for 6 months and the TV in there didn't have AV in. They give a suprisingly reasonable picture.
