Best cable to use with a PS2 ?
Question:

Getting one of the Finlux 100Hz 32" widescreen TVs to replace my cheapo Bush 28" 50Hz and thought I should get a decent cable for my PS2 while I'm upgrading as I use it for DVD playback as well as games. Anybody have any recommendations ? At the moment I'm using a Blaze Ultimate Scart cable for it - is there anything better out there ?

You could save the money you would be wasting on a good quality cable and put it towards a half decent dvd player. The ps2 is a games machine not a dvd player.

I'm not wasting any money on buying a DVD player when the PS2 gives perfectly good playback in my opinion. But if I can get a better quality picture through it with another cable without forking out too much then I will do.
If the general concensus is that I won't see anymore improvement then I won't bother.

:) Must have been badly setup as mine and my friends give a very good picture. Admittedly I've had nothing to really compare it against (used to have a Samsung 511 before the PS2 and the PS2 was as good as or better) but I honestly think it holds its own against a lot of standalone players.

It doesn't stand a chance
Spend the moeny on something like a pioneer 350 and you won't be sorry.

PSpoo quality is pants, no matter how well you set it up it doesnt have a picture output thats as good as a £60 dvd player. if your after a good quality cable your after a good quality picture, so dont bury your head in the sand when it comes to listening to suggestions, a few rules you might want to write down.
1, DTSrules is always right :)
2, if DTSrules is wrong see rule 1

Get an s-video lead , i think mine was a blaze one it is far better than the original scart lead i got with the ps2 and much better than the scart that came with dvd regionX !

If you have nothing to compare it to then why bother upgrading? If he enjoys watching on his PS2 then let him. I started out with a PS2 as well and quite enjoyed the picture.
To the avarge person the (who isn't hung up on technology) the picutre is crystal clear and won't complain. Upgrade and you won't be disapointed however you could try and buy a copy of Region X and RGB cable. This will improve your picture quality.

the blaze thing is probably rgb isnt it? id just try going that route,eg. make sure your tv is also on rgb setting and the ps2 is in the set up menu as well, etc... and im sure the pic is probably more than fine.

I am not sure which one, but one of the Blaze cables came witha switch to turn RGB off for movie mood, due to Sony disabeling the RGB playback for DVD.

crikey!
Well I guess the PS2 outputs RGB - I am sure it does - well then thats a better player than a basic toshiba I looked at yesterday round a friends house - it had no RGB, RGB is best without a doubt.
I have an AIWA player and switching between s-video and RGB is very different and IMO RGB has far better colour sep.
My bro just got the £5 lead (fully wired gold scart) from Argos and its much better than the one supplied
eh?? I am lost now - read a previous post. So a ps2 only outputs rgb with a special lead as by default its disabled during dvd film playback?

Answers:

No its not the lead. If you play a dvd on a Euro PS2 via a RGB cable you get waht is known as a green screen, ie everything is in green. The only way around this is to use Region X which is like a boot disc which allows the PS2 to play all region dvds. It also allows Euro PS2 to play dvds back in proper RGB. Or get your machine chipped.
