AMP advice needed.
Question:

Currently i own an onkyo 575 amp.
I previously had an arcam alpha 5 amp for music but to get into home cinema i sold that and bought the onkyo.
I'm very happy with the amp for home cinema but disapointed with my CD playback for music.
Can anyone reccomend an amp with the music capabilities of my old arcam which is also a good home cinema performer.
Suggestions gratefully received......

Answers:

You could get an Arcam power amp (Alpha 9/10) and attache to the pre-out for the fronts of your Onkyo. I'm not sure how well this will perform (certainly better than the Onkyo's built-in amps). The friend of mine who bought my old Yammy in the UK when I came over here attached an Alpha 10 to the fronts and a pair of Alpha 8's for the rears and center effectively using the Yamaha as a decoder and tuner etc (he already had the Alphas from previous Nad Pro-Logic setup which really lacked in performance without them). The yamaha sounded very nice for music before the Arcams were added, but with it just took a step up into a different class. The sound from the Arcam's seems pretty distinct (I used to have and Alpha 7 integrated amp before the Yammy and had to sell it to afford the Yamaha :( ).
If you can see if you can get an Arcam power amp on loan or similar and try to see if this gives the required sound. If not then my suggestion would be to look at saving the money for an Arcam HC setup.
