Stacking seperates
Question:

Just wondered what the general consensus was when it comes to stacking seperates? I have a Marantz amp and Marantz dvd player. At the moment I have them side by side but it takes up too much room I placed the dvd player on top of the amp and it looks great!
Just wondered if this would be "ok" regarding heat transfer etc.
Or is it a no-no :nono:
What is everyone elses arrangements?

I also have both denon amp and dvd player, the amp needs to keep cool or it will trip out, when i first got it i had it on a mid shelf on my AV rack and it tripped out half way through a film. you could see the insides almost glowing red it was that hot. now i have it on the top shelf with the grill getting plenty of air and its fine. the dvd player is now half way down the rack and sits there fine.

I've always believed in putting the souce at the bottom of the pile (DVD player / CD player) as the extra weight on top will reduce the vibration on the unit. The amp should go highest as it will get the warmest.

If it's a recent Marantz amp the 4200-7200 or the newer 4300-7300 I definitely wouldn't put the DVD player on top - these Marantz amps run very hot. Have owned a fair few AV amps in my time and the Marantz I had definitely ran the hottest.
Stacking isn't a problem as such, but remember that vents are put on electrical equipment for a reason.
Why not put the amp on top of the DVD player?

My thoughts exactly. I have my amp on the top open to the air on its own shelf, then have (top to bottom) cable box, VCR, DVD1, DVD2, MD on next shelf and PVR on the very bottom on its own shelf.
I need to get a new rack though as 3 sheves is not enough and I want to add a 400 CD-Changer to the mix.
Alwyas keep as much circulation around the amp as possible though.

Never thought of that the amp seems very very heavy though and the dvd player is very lightweight I'd be scared it squashed it!
Might try it and see
