Question:
hi, im about to buy an av amp (marantz sr4300) but was wondering if it is compatible with a pre amp? a mate has an ordinary stereo amp pre amped but i want to do the same with my av amp, is it as straight forward as a stereo or made more complicated by the multiple inputs?
Um, why pre-amp it? I can see why you would want to possibly add a power amp to it but not a pre-amp. The Marantz itself is a very good integrated amp in such that it has a pre and power in. It probably does take inputs from and external decoder (which could be a stereo pre-amp) but then you are still using the power smps of the Marantz. To get better sounds I'd reccomend getting one or more power amps for it rather than an pre.
sorry, i now feel i right prat, i meant power amp, im getting this amp, as i have heard good overall performance, but 5.1 etc is a second interest to me, i want kickass quiality music, so would i be just as well to buy a quality stereo amp and bi-amp it or (what i meant in the question) could i run a power amp through the marantz and achieve the same thing?
I do a similar thing at the moment, I use an Audiolab 8000s as a power amp for the front two channels of my system.
Any A/V amp with pre-amp outputs will let you do this.
EDIT: Depends how good this power amp youre getting is, as to whether you'll notice much of an improvement (The Marantz is already a pretty good 2 channel amp, unlike my Sony 930).
