Question:
Ive just received my 1st Home Cinema kit, Digitheatre Platinum, & was wondering the best way to set it up to get the optimum sound & picture from it.
Im pretty new to this as Ive been using my TV & a couple of Hi-Fi speakers. Heres a list of the available sockets in each of the individual pieces of Hardware that I'll be using:
TV: Toshiba 28W8DB
Input/Output: Scart-1 (Full -21 pin) RGB, AV
Input/Output: Scart-2 (21 pin) AV, S-video, Selectable output
Input/Output: Scart-3 (21 oin) AV, S-video (RCA jack)
Fixed Output: Audio L+R
DigiTheatre
Input
Digital: coaxial or Toslink optical S/P-DIF
Analog: stereo left & right phono jacks
DVD player
S-Video: Y & C 4-pin S-Video connector
Digital audio output: Optical & Coaxial digital digital uotput
Its all just double-dutch to me Im afraid & Im a bit lost, so any help appreciated, thanks!

Optical/coaxil output doesnt matter as they both exceed the needs of the sound quality so they both sound the same. but i always use an optical cable just for the novelty value of having the red light coming out the end
am i right in thinking your dvd player doesnt output RGB?? if not thats your next upgrade, get one with RGB output it does the world of good, but if it does mate, sticka good quality (IXUS) fully wired scart in there.
You do realise now you have your fist system there's no turning back, you will be eyeing up your first seperates system in no time :D

Thanks for the reply mate. 1st I do have RGB on my DVD & have upgraded the SCART lead, so thats ok. 2nd I have the sound coming out of the speakers ok for DVDs, using some sort of wire( lol Ive not a clue what type it is, analogue?!?!) but when I try to watch TV theres nothing & I have to flick a switch on back of TV to activate internal (tv) speakers  , its annoying as hell!! Am I doing something wrong?
Sounds like you dont have your DVD player set up properly, you need to tell it to output in surround sound, you do this by going into the menu and changing the sound from PCM to RAW then you need a Ditigial interconnect, as i said earlier it doesnt matter whether its coax or optical. Connect it up and away you go. always turn your TV down and your speakers up for best effects, but when watching in DTS your TV shouldnt make a sound anyways.
(what a stroke of luck i was on the same section at the same time as you)
you da' man!!
I thought it was obviously a setting/output that needed changing, but buggered if I knew where to look , so thanks mate, I'll get a toslink cable( yes?) today....... actually do you think this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=298&item=3005431545&rd=1) or this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=298&item=3005431547) is ok? Or should I buy a dearer/named one?
Thanks

That one is best, optical cables come with covers over the end because they get damaged easy, dont spent 20 minutes thinking you have bought the wrong cable by trying to stick it in with the cable cover on like i did :(
I think Toslink is just the name of the connector at the end of the optical cable, so if you go into a shop ask for an optical cable so you dont look silly
