Denon DM30 speakers
Question:

Probably going to order myself a Denon DM30 for myself in the next few days and I'm wondering what's a good choice for speakers to go with it.
I hesitate to say that money is no object but, in general, I'd go for quality.
Thought about the Mission M71 as mentioned on the HIFIstore site.
Suggestions?

Have a look here..:)

Answers:

The Crestas can be had for £49.99 anyway from Richer Sounds, whilst the D-M30 without speakers can be found for £229, so you can do that deal for cheaper.
Should sound good, although my D-M30 uses the Denon speakers and they're pretty good - no complaints.

Answers:

You can get the DM50 for the same price as the DM30 now, i got it last summer and it was only a few quid more then, it's well worth investing in.

Answers:

Can get the DM-30 for around £190 inc. carriage, so the Creative Audio deal Contar is not a good deal at all.

I was only offering an alternative speaker choice to the standard Denon/Mission combo.

As money is not a problem here I suggested an alternative. I belive from past dealings that Creative Audio are a "Quality" supplier and with this offer you will have a 2 year guarantee, and a choice of speaker colours !

Answers:

But that alternative can be had for £50 on the High Street - if money is no object then go for something like the Quad 11L.

Okay, been to my local hifi stockist today and got a demo of the DM30 (nice). Was demonstrated with the packaged speakers you can get with it.
When I mentioned getting different speakers I was recommended the Acoustic Energy Evo Ones. I've checked them out reviews wise and they're obviously decent speakers but is this overkill for the Denon?
It's just inside my budget to get this combo so I'd seriously consider it.

Answers:

What you get is your choice. Only your ears are listening to your DM30 in your home. But the Evo's have had great reviews.
Is it overkill ??.......... What makes the sound ? The speakers.. Yes I know the Denon does as well but an amplified sound can have very diffrent results with diffrent speakers.
The choice is yours RDJ. You choose the best combo, good luck and enjoy it.

Agree with Contar here - I'd imagine the Evo's will sound very good.
Also try B&W DM303 or 601S3, and Kef's Q1's.

I just picked up a DM30 from my local RicherSounds for £174.95 all in - using them with a pair of Gale Gold MK2 Monitors I already had, and it sounds VERY nice indeed :)
Definately looking at getting some other speakers eventually so will stay tuned on this thread....

What's "all in" Andy?
Also, can you tell me what kind of speaker connections they have at the back? Are they spring clips of binding posts that will accept banana plugs?

Answers:

They're spring clip (size considerations I think) but I have them using QED Silver Anniversary with no trouble.

Answers:

Swinnydon - "all in" means £174.95 was the price I paid. ie they matched their "website" price, rather than instore price.
Lovely bit of kit :)

Cheers AndySymbian. I just thought you meant that they included speakers as well for the "all in" price but I guess not. I wonder whether they're willing to class the denon as a "system upgrade" so that I can trade-in my ancient Sony mini system for £50 ;)

Let me know if they do, as I have an old Aiwa HIFI I need to get shot of... :)

Andy-went in last night and told to some idiot who didn't have a clue so waited 15 minutes or so to speak to the manager. It's pretty much at his discretion but it must be less than 5 years old (not sure how they can prove this) He said that he shouldn't really since the offer's supposed to be for seperates so he'd only give me about £20 for it. Said I'd have to take it in for him to have a look at first but think I should get a bit more for mine even if I took it into Cash Converters or something. I also asked him if I traded it in, whether I could say spend £200 on just a single seperates item eg CD player, and he said no. Has to be full seperates system so amp, cd and speakers! :(
Now to decide whether to go for the Denon UDM30 or the new Teac lifestyle system that they have in for £200. The manager seemed to think that the Teac has better sound quality!

Answers:

Doesn't sound worth the trade in to me.
My DM30 is playing up - when I turn the unit off (goes into standby) after about 2 minutes it starts emitting a whime which rises in pitch. Comes from the unit itself, rather than the speakers. Can't get rid of it without turning the unit back on, but putting it on 0 volume.
Its a nagging fault I don't think I can put up with - do like the sound quality though, so will try to exchange it for another unit.

I decided to pay double for the TEAC Reference 350 instead! Worse comes to worse, I'll put it on ebay in a year and probably get the same price for it! :D
